It’s all political and lawyer talk right now. I’d personally be surprised if Oklahoma and Texas play in the Big12 the rest of their contract, but the Big12 sure as hell isn’t letting them out easy. They definitely could leave early, but it will cost them a ton of money to do so. Legally their media rights are the Big12’s until 2025.

They had no intention of this SEC talk getting out this early. They definitely wanted the Playoff expansion vote to be passed first.

If a conference is considering market sizes, all-time football success, or academic excellence, K-State isn’t the right fit. However, if the discussion is about solid television ratings, on-field success in the cable TV era, quality facilities, and fan passion, it can be argued that K-State sits atop the eight-school heap of what remains in Big 12 without OU and Texas.

In 5-10 years, college football will complete it's transition to a regional sport, similar to NASCAR, where only fans in SEC country, plus a few outliers such as Ohio State and Clemson will care.

I think K-State should just be absorbed into The University of Kansas. Do we really need two? Combine forces.

That article doesn't address any of that. At this point, I would hope the BOR wouldn't pull any such shenanigans.

I think BOR's desire is to not split them up for sure, but if one can survive in a P5 without the other, they won't stand in their way. I doubt they are going to wrap an anchor around one of the University's neck just so the other can have company on the way to the bottom.

And yet KU makes a shit load more money than both K-State and Missouri even with that program at rock bottom.

KU is a sleeping giant. If they could even get their football program to Iowa level, they might be the most profitable athletic department that exists.

Best case for the Purps is that the Rump stays together and we add BYU and a 10th. But even then all these schools (save for Kansas) are FB focused, even Baylor. They lost their top 2 draws and prob will lose a ton of recruiting potential in Texas.


Worse, the TV money prob drops from $35m to $15m. FB is very expensive to run. And since KSU makes 30m less than Kansas, that type of cut impacts them far more (margin pressure).


KSU is really f****, no matter what happens.
