The Nevada AC will meet today publicly at 11am to discuss Conor, Khabib, and Jon Jones. They apparently have reached a settlement agreement with Conor and Khabib, but no one is sure what will happen with Jon Jones.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">NAC live stream online with Jon Jones hearing, Khabib vs. Conor agreements (12 p.m. ET) <a href="https://t.co/id9fqfbNg0">https://t.co/id9fqfbNg0</a> <a href="https://t.co/ZM1yFQwyPa">pic.twitter.com/ZM1yFQwyPa</a></p>— MMAFighting.com (@MMAFighting) <a href="https://twitter.com/MMAFighting/status/1090263385520795652?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">January 29, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
Conor McGregor has been suspended 6 months (available to fight 4/7/19)
Khabib Nurmagomedov is suspended 9 months, but that would be reduced to 6 months if he assists in recording an anti-bullying PSA. (available 7/7/19 if he just takes the 9 months) Khabib's 2 cornermen were suspended for a year. |

The commissioner opened by telling Jon Jones that if the commission had decided to strictly follow the book on their regulations, then this hearing wouldn't be happening and "your career would be over." He would have been looking at a suspension between 18 months and life, and it would have been closer to life.
The reason they didn't do that is because experts who they trust (presumably from USADA and maybe elsewhere) were telling them that the metabolites could have plausibly been a residual from the prior violation. They didn't think they had enough time to figure it out and let him fight in Nevada, but they weren't going to stand in the way of California. Jones and his lawyer brought two doctors who will presumably tell the AC that this "pulsing" thing we've been laughing at is totally a thing that can happen, and a USADA doctor is also there. |
Quote:
|
And I found this...
https://www.instagram.com/p/BtOT4hEA..._web_copy_link Joanna Jedrzejczyk: @rondarousey can I join ya in WWE? |
It wasn't the drug Jones tested positive for, but USADA did study the long term effect of clomiphene (which they could since it was FDA approved), and they did find that it was both detectable for a lot longer than they expected, and it also showed metabolites "pulsing" long after they took it.
They believe Turinabol behaves the same way. They also believe that short and intermediate-term metabolites would have been detectable for "several months" after ingestion, and they only found long-term metabolites. Because of that, the chief science officer of USADA and the director of SMRTL both believe these positive tests were residuals from 2017. |
Quote:

Quote:
So, Jones could have taken Turinabol in the first half of that 10-month gap, but he would have been caught with more than just long-term if he took it in the last half of the testing gap. One of the commissioners asked USADA how the hell they allowed a 10 month gap to happen for someone like Jon Jones and they essentially said "yeah, we ****ed up, sorry". They pretty much said from now on anyone who is caught with Turinabol is going to be tested more often to try to detect those short and medium-term metabolites which should not be in their system at all. |
The chairman of the Nevada AC has proposed giving Jon Jones a "1 fight license" and he'd have to come back to ask for another license after that if he wanted it.
He is also going to require that Jones be tested twice a month every month for the entire year of 2019 regardless of where he chooses to fight. "You are going to live with someone in a labcoat for a long time" edit: They are explaining that this isn't some ridiculous punishment, but since they can't have a Turinabol study (it would be unethical), then they want to collect a shitton of data on Jones to help them in future cases with other athletes. edit2: If Jon Jones starts the twice a month testing, and then stops (say after his next fight) before the end of the year, then he probably will not get another license in Nevada. edit3: Nevada unanimously approved Jones to fight. Nevada is taking it upon themselves to test Jones 2 or 3 times for the next 40 days (paid for by Jones himself). After that, they will coordinate with USADA and VADA to try to make sure he is tested twice a month for all of 2019. |
LMAO Poor Jon Jones. He's the only one who has performance enhancing drugs from the past "pulsing."
|
Khabib Nurmagomedov announced that because of the 1 year suspensions given to the guys in his corner, he will never fight in Nevada again, and he will also not fight at all until their suspensions are over. He's currently asking the UFC to book him for a fight at MSG in November.

Ready for the UFC? I hope you are, because they are going to have a card every single weekend from now till.... who the hell knows when, their schedule doesn't go out far enough to show an empty weekend, but its at least going to be 9 straight.
This weekend will be their first Brazil card of the year. Thursday 9pm - (Fightpass) - Roy Jones Jr. Boxing There is a random boxing card tonight on Fightpass. Friday 7pm - (Fightpass) Glory 63 Kickboxing 8pm - (Fightpass) XFN 356 Small local card from Tulsa. Based on tapology rankings, it is pretty low quality even for a local card. 9:30pm - (Fightpass) Friday Night Fights This is a Muay Thai event from New York, probably the best thing on fightpass on Friday night. Saturday 4pm - (ESPN+) - UFC Fight Night, Assuncao vs. Moraes 2 Historically Brazil cards have been ****ing awful, with maybe 1 good fight at the end, a couple old depressing guys, and thats it. This card though is pretty good as far as Brazil cards go. The prelims still don't have much, but the main card (starts at 7pm) has 4 or 5 decent fights. midnight - (Fightpass) - Quintet Japan Quintet is a fun "king of the hill" type of submission grappling event where two teams of 5 battle one on one, winner stays on to fight the next guy on the other team, etc until one team runs out of fighters. |
ESPN has given Dominick Cruz and Gilbert Melendez a half hour show every week to break down fights, their first show will be Sunday before their super bowl pregame coverage starts.
|
We have a UFC PPV this week.... though some of you will need to stream it (UFC app on computer, Roku, PS4, ESPN app, etc there are options). The UFC 234 PPV will not be available on DirecTV this weekend. This should not matter for anyone who has even the slightest bit of technical knowledge. Most UFC cards are streaming now anyway.
Thursday 9pm - (Fightpass) - Island Fights 52 Based on tapology rankings, this is actually a decent card by local promotion standards, which is unusual for a Thursday night. Saturday 2pm - (Internet) - Bellator Newcastle This is the first of a series of fight cards that Bellator is featuring this year in Europe, trying to grow their fanbase. Its not at a time convenient for the US, but they probably didn't want to compete with a good UFC PPV anyway. This card is actually decent for Bellator, and its reportedly free for US viewers on their online app. 7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm ESPN/9pm PPV) - UFC 234, Whittaker vs. Gastelum As usual for UFC PPV's, the card is top-heavy. The prelims and early prelims are really kind of bad on paper (so I assume they'll probably be great in reality). Many of the prelim fighters were pretty much signed for just this card from Asia and Australia so they pretty much know they'll need a flashy KO or finish to have any hope of staying on. In the main card, we start slow with a good likeable guy (Sam Alvey) who just might be the most boring fighter on the roster. The only reason he's still here is that he somehow keeps piling up KO's (usually after standing and doing nothing much for several minutes). The last 3 fights are great, overall this PPV is maybe slightly above average. |
***THE MAIN EVENT TONIGHT IS OFF***
Robert Whittaker had an abdominal hernia and needed surgery last night. The fight card would have still been pretty good for TV, but it is now very much below average for a PPV. |
Quote:
Well I just googled him and saw this! He is up for a fight lol <blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Well I’m in Australia <a href="https://twitter.com/danawhite?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@danawhite</a> “ I know a guy!! “</p>— Cowboy Cerrone (@Cowboycerrone) <a href="https://twitter.com/Cowboycerrone/status/1094339457669623809?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 9, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> Also sounds like hes probably fighting McGregor this summer. |
Dana White pretty clearly spelled out what he thinks the interim title means tonight in a press conference. It only means you are next, thats it. "If you can't fight, then you are out ... the machine has to keep going". They may wait for champs, but they will not wait for interim champs.
|
OK, here we go. This weekend is going to be very busy with a crapton of local cards, two Bellator cards, and ending with the first all-ESPN UFC card on Sunday night.
Friday 6:30pm - (Fightpass) - Hernandez vs. Garcia Boxing 7pm - (Fightpass) - Invicta FC 34 Live from Kansas City, as far as Invicta cards go, this is much better than usual, with several high ranked top-50 prospects and their Flyweight title. 8pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 215, Mitrione vs. Kharitonov Bellator is doing it again. They are giving us a crappy Friday card topped by a couple good fights to get us to tune in so they can hype the hell out of their DAZN card. They REALLY want us to pay another $5/month for that streaming service. Anyway, this card is below average, just tune in near the end for the last 2 fights. Saturday 3pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 101 Top European B-league promotion, this is about average for them. 5pm - (Fightpass) - Coyle vs. Scott Boxing 7:30pm - (Fightpass) - CFFC 72 This is one of the top B-leagues in the Northeast US, and its above average by local promotion standards. 9pm - (DAZN) - Bellator 216, MVP vs. Daley This card is stacked for Bellator, with the first round of their Welterweight Grand Prix. The last 4 fights are all very good, but unfortunately you have to pay for DAZN to see it. 2:30am - (Fightpass) - Pancrase, Rebels Ring 1 I have no idea what this is, its not on tapology. Based on their history though, this card is probably hot garbage. Sunday 6pm TV - (4:30pm ESPN+/6pm ESPN) - UFC Fight Night on ESPN, Ngannou vs. Velasquez After wading through that big mess of fight cards Friday and Saturday, your reward is this card. The main card is insane for free TV, they are really starting their ESPN deal off with a bang. Out of the last 6 fights, 5 of them are very interesting, capped off with a crazy heavyweight bout. The prelims starting at 6pm are also great. The early prelims..... eh, whatever overall we have 9 good fights out of 13 booked. On paper this might be one of the best free UFC cards of the year. |
Some pretty good fights tonight wish this were on a Saturday tho
|
**** man, it looks like Cain is past it
|
This weekend isn't as busy as last weekend, but we still have UFC and Bellator cards in Europe.
Friday 5:30am - (Fightpass) - World Lethwei Championship MMA on the other side of the world on a work day? Hard pass. I don't even know what this is. 9pm - (Fightpass) - Combat Jiu-Jitsu: Absolute Championship Submission-Only jiu-jitsu tournament under Eddie Bravo rules that also allows open hand strikes. (Technically you can get a finish by KO, but that is rare in this ruleset) This should be cool to watch. Saturday 10am - (10am ESPN2/1pm ESPN+) - UFC Fight Night, Blachowicz vs. Santos This card is below average for the UFC, maybe 3 interesting fights on the whole card, and after this card is over you can switch to Bellator for another "meh" card if you have DAZN. (why do you have DAZN?) 3pm - (DAZN) - Bellator 217, Gallagher vs. Graham This is well below average by Bellator's standards. Sunday 1pm - (Fightpass) - Muay Thai Grand Prix Muay Thai |
oh, hell yeah. Israel Adesanya will fight Gastelum for the interim MW title in April.
|
ESPN is really ****ing up UFC with these dumbass fight times

As of Tuesday evening, we have a very good UFC PPV scheduled this weekend. So, we're about 3 days away from 3 or 4 fighters having to go to the hospital during a bad weight cut, failing drug tests, or inexplicably getting hurt after walking out of their shower.
Wednesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - WXC, Warrior Wednesday 1 It finally happened. Some B-League promotion looked at what those wacky Alaskans were doing and thought "hey, maybe we should try that." On paper, this card is awful even by local promotion standards, but there's no other MMA cards that night. Thursday 9pm - (Fightpass) - Boxing Friday 9pm - (Fightpass) - Friday Night Fights I have no idea how good this card is, there's not much info available. Saturday 3pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 102 Top European B-League promotion, this card is decent by local promotion standards. 7pm TV - (5:15pm Fightpass/7pm ESPN/9pm PPV) - UFC 235, Jones vs. Smith Your first thought might be "why the hell is this Anthony Smith dude getting the title shot?" I had that thought too, then I looked at the rankings and remembered: the LHW division is a trash fire. OK, fine. Don't let that put you off though, this is on paper a fantastic PPV card, if it holds together. The early prelims are nothing special but after that, the prelims on ESPN are very good, and the PPV is great. The main event is probably going to be anticlimactic, but before that all of the fights on the PPV are very good, that welterweight title fight is highly anticipated, hell I'm even interested in that strawweight bout. |
I wonder what competitors this fine company beat to win this coveted endorsement?

Ronda Rousey is gone, Conor McGregor is not going to be a champ anytime soon, and the heavyweight champ (DC) while a good guy, isn't a draw unless Brock Lesnar is in the picture.
So, this actually might be one of the most high-profile, compelling UFC fight cards of the year. I think I will put together an official thread for this event when the early prelims start. |
The UFC goes to Wichita this weekend for the first time.
Wednesday 7:30pm - (Fightpass) - Island Fights 53 Live from.... Ft. Walton Beach FL which is NOT an island at all... oh well, anyway it looks like these Wednesday cards are a thing now. This card is very mediocre for a local promotion, but there's nothing else on this day. Saturday 10am - (Fightpass) - Glory 64 Kickboxing 1:30 pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 103 Top European B-League, this is a pretty good card for this level. 4pm - (ESPN+) - UFC Fight Night, Lewis vs. Dos Santos This is a very top-heavy card with a good main and co-main event, a couple other names, and not much else. But, if you live in or near Wichita, it'll probably still be a good time. For the UFC overall though, this card is below average until the end. 11pm - (Fightpass) - Absolute Muay Thai Muay Thai |
Nice little card on right now

ESPN and UFC just announced a massive change to how numbered PPV's will work, starting immediately. (The ESPN deal also got extended 2 more years)
From now on, UFC PPV events will ***ONLY*** be available on the ESPN+ streaming service, and only if you subscribe. (Subscription is $5/month or $50/year). So the days of just flipping over on your remote and buying it are over, but there are ESPN+ apps for pretty much every device. The price for UFC PPV events will also go down $5, back to $60. (So I guess if you typically only buy 1 PPV a year, the price doesn't change, but you have to get ESPN+ for the month, get the PPV, and then cancel ESPN+ to do that). They are also offering a bundle deal for $80 to get a full year of ESPN+ and 1 PPV. ESPN paid a "license fee" (currently unknown) to get the UFC to do this, but that license fee must have been huge because now fans with bad internet service will have to go to Buffalo Wild Wings. |

Alienate the fighters first, now the fans. Smart move
|
T.J. Dillashaw failed a drug test in New York (not USADA), and is suspended for 1 year. He has been stripped of the bantamweight championship. He could be suspended longer by USADA depending on exactly what he took.
|
We now know that ESPN dumped a tremendous amount of money on this, so they will be incentivized to promote the shit out of PPV's for the next 5 years. Numbers are hazy, but apparently its only a bad deal for the UFC if they averaged more than 500k per PPV, which lol is not happening. They paid the UFC a huge premium.
|
The NCAA tournament is not stopping Bellator and UFC this weekend
Friday 8pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 218, Sanchez vs. Karakhanyan This is about average for Bellator, but nothing really standing out. 8pm - (Fightpass) - Island Fights 54 For those who may still have fightpass and didn't just simply switch to ESPN+, this is about average for a local promotion. Saturday 4pm - (ESPN+) - UFC Fight Night, Thompson vs. Pettis Pettis has decided to step up to welterweight, and his first opponent up there is Wonderboy. This fight is very top-heavy, not much in the prelims. Only the last two fights are compelling, but the main card starts at 7pm |
lol, thats the first time I've ever seen someone get knocked out by a jumping superman punch. Pettis KO'd Wonderboy in a fight he was losing.

Gaethje is fighting this weekend!
Thursday 8pm - (Fightpass) - Boxing Friday 8pm - (Fightpass) - CES 55 This card looks about average by local promotion standards 8pm - (Paramount and DAZN) - Bellator 219, Awad vs. Girtz Just like the UFC lately, Bellator comes at us with a top-heavy card. Maybe they know we will be watching basketball early on and are only hoping we'll switch for the main event. Anyway, thats a good plan because before the main event this card is awful by Bellator's standards, but the main event is pretty good. The main event should walk around 9:30pm. Saturday 4pm TV - (2:30pm ESPN+/4pm ESPN) - UFC Fight Night on ESPN, Barboza vs. Gaethje The last couple weeks have had top-heavy cards and this is no exception, but we do have 1 maybe 2 interesting fights on the early prelims. Not much in the prelims, but the last 4 fights on the main card are interesting. The main event is obviously fantastic for cable TV. 11:30pm - (Internet and OneFC App) - ONE Championship: A New Era So, why am I posting a OneFC Card? They've had fights in prior weeks, and no one really cared. I don't care about the prelims for this one either, or really even their last 3 fights. It is because this event is the OneFC debut for both Eddie Alvarez and Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson, live from Tokyo. The main card starts bright and early about 4am or so on Sunday morning, and their fights will probably start about 5am or so. If you don't want to wake up, I'm sure you can find a replay somewhere on the internet Sunday. If you do want to wake up, we do know the event is available free in North America on the OneFC app, and there may also be a couple websites simulcasting it. midnight - (Fightpass) - Absolute Muay Thai |
Evan's knocked him the **** out
|
Question:
Tonight it seemed like the fighters were having their gloves, and sometimes their wrapping, cut off immediately after the fight, before the decision was announced. Does anyone know why? Is it because of ESPN or the Pennsylvania state athletic commission, or whatever state agency oversees the fights? Or a new UFC thing for some reason? Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk |
lol, Eddie Alvarez got knocked out by some random Russian in the 1st round.
Mighty Mouse's Japanese opponent in his OneFC debut did OK in the first round, but got mauled by DJ in the 2nd before getting choked out. edit: before you ask, apparently in OneFC they dont believe in any of those grounded opponent rules, you can knee someone in the head while they are down. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="in" dir="ltr">Demetrious Johnson VS Yuya Wakamatsu <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ONEchampionship?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ONEchampionship</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/WeAreONE?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#WeAreONE</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ANewEra?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#ANewEra</a> <a href="https://t.co/b4F9125HBQ">pic.twitter.com/b4F9125HBQ</a></p>— ZombieProphet (@GIFsZP) <a href="https://twitter.com/GIFsZP/status/1112303586288037888?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 31, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |

I was glad to see Gaethje get the win. I love his style of fighting
|
There is no UFC or Bellator this weekend (no PFL till later this year), but it feels like just about every B-league promotion in North America is rushing in to fill the gap on fightpass and flocombat, starting tonight. (I don't usually list flocombat cards but there's a lot of them this weekend).
Thursday 8pm - (Fightpass) - XFN 357 This card is not on tapology (which is a bad sign), so I have no idea how good these fighters are. Probably not very. 10pm - (Fightpass) - M-1 Global - USA, Battle in the Desert M-1 is Russia's top MMA promotion, and tapology rankings suggest that they do have some decent local talent. They are below Bellator, but not that much below. With this card, they are still trying to expand into the US, but of course our MMA local promotion scene is already saturated. Friday 9pm - (Fightpass) - Muay Thai Saturday 2pm - (Fightpass) - Muay Thai Grand Prix 24 As far as this sport goes, this event seems bigger than usual. 1am - (Fightpass) - Quintet Fight Night 3 This event is fun to watch, but unfortunately its in Japan so its in the middle of the night. (It is a 5 v 5 grappling tournament with teams going at it king of the mountain style one at a time vs the winner until one team's grapplers all lose.) |
The PFL has just announced their 2019 rosters and schedule. Regular season will be in 6 events on May through August before the cut down to the playoffs, with each fighter getting 2 regular season matches. Playoffs on 3 events in October, Championships on New Years Eve. All 6 regular season cards will be ESPN2 for 2 hours and ESPN+ for 3 hours.

Now we know what Dillashaw popped for and why he immediately vacated the bantamweight belt. He tested positive for injected EPO, and is suspended for 2 years.
Apparently they caught him because of a new test that was developed, it used to be very hard to catch people for injectable EPO, but this new test makes it a lot easier. They went back and tested an old sample from Dillashaw and that popped too, so Dillashaw has been cheating for a long time. |
