I like Alex Smith a lot, and as he showed here, you can win a lot of games with that guy. Hell, I think the Skins will win the NFC East this year mostly because of him. What we know all too well is that he can only do so much. Can he take a team to the Super Bowl? I think so, but it would have to be a magical year - no injuries, great supporting cast, favorable and timely breaks.

I still think he should have went to the Browns. They would have loved him there.

Hell, the NY Giants would be a great fit for him. And in the limited time I have watched him he does seem to still be pushing the ball down the field.

They just lost both starting guards and Paul Richardson to season ending injuries. Just keeps getting worse for Alex lol

This was kind of funny in their trade smith for carr thread

OP I was joking, but I was reading an article about how Jon likes and wants older quarterbacks. Alex fits that description. Jay seems to thrive with younger guys like Carr. They’re brothers and could work it out.

punch it in That article had nothing to do with football......

Using 2008's leaders to demonstrate how I'd build a team to how feel better than a coinflip's chance of advancing beyond the conference finals with Alex I say would need:

1) the Ravens' defense
2a) Marshawn Lynch / Pierre Thomas (assuming an average or worse offensive line) or;
2b) Brian Westbrook / Ahmad Bradshaw (assuming an average or better offensive line)
3) choice of Dallas Clark or Chris Cooley (probably depending on which set of RBs you're starting)
4) DeSean Jackson, Anthony Gonzalez and Malcolm Floyd as your top three receivers.

DO NOT read that link. DO NOT. It's like jumping into a time machine and reliving pre-mahomes football. The bargaining, justifying, etc. makes me ill because that used to be us.

We have been saved.

If you have a coin flip chance of making it to the SB, I would think almost every team would take that every year. Alex was a muffed punt away from the SB with the 49ers.

Have you watched any of their games? The man is on pace to throw 16 TDs. They are winning because of their defense and Adrian Peterson. They are winning games in spite of Smith. Zero hyperbole, he has been garbage this season.

You mean Alex Smith has done an outstanding job of setting up his running game, defense and punter.

What are the odds a team drafts and makes the FA signings to build a team like I outlined?

I pretty much agree. For Alex to ever win a Super Bowl EVERYTHING would have to be right. Possible but just not very likely.

He was the right guy for us when he was brought in. We were nowhere close to being a contender. He was a steady the ship guy. In the meantime, we got a number of weapons for an elite offense. Then it was the right time to move on from Alex. And we now are enjoying an elite offense with an elite QB

I read the first 10 posts in that thread and started having flashback panic attacks.
