Jones will have to play this season, he really has no other option so this is really a problem for next year. Relax we will have him back before the season starts.

He'll turn 30 next offseason. If he doesn't play and play very well this season he won't be offered anything close to what we're likely offering him right now. He'll be looking at offers around $25M/yr.
The Chiefs have most of the leverage here. The Tyreek situation has shown that they won't be forced into making deals they don't want to make. |
Quote:
I think deep down he loves the Chiefs and he loves his teammates. When it's time to go he'll go. He's been through many training camps already - he knows what it takes to be ready for the season. He's just trying to get his cash. When that is decided (in whatever way, positive or negative) I'm confident he'll still give 100% |

Deserves talk is pointless. We know he deserves it but we can't pay it and keep others we want to keep.

I’m not a fan of letting a pass rusher walk so we can sign an off ball lber and a slot cb

No idea if he will play or not. He probably does since 20 mil is on the line but this isn't getting done. He's as good as gone before the trade deadline.

They're definitely paying Bolton and Creed though. |

Creed seems like the lock of all locks, though. |
I wonder what the market is for Sneed. Obviously we know how awesome he is, but I never see him mentioned among the league's best by national pundits and such. Might not be a crazy high price to keep him. Then again, we're actually so good at bringing in guys on rookie contracts it may just be completely unnecessary.
|
The Chiefs let Hudson and Morse walk without paying them.
Creed is better than both of those guys, but the Chiefs have obviously shown they can draft/develop quality centers. |

I was planning on making a post about the options that we could look to trade Jones for around the league. Likely options of a younger DT that’s flashed but hasn’t done so consistently that a team would be willing to part with along with a premium pick to get CJ95. Someone going to the last year of his rookie deal wanting to earn a big second contract.
I came up pretty empty. Next years DT class is almost completely devoid of potential game changing talent. All of the DTs that have any value got paid. The Chiefs DT room is bottom 10 -at best- without CJ …and quite possibly in the conversation for league worst. If I’m CJs agent, I’m saying “there are 2 ways my client shows up before a few days before game 1… A guarantee not to use the franchise tag on him next year (I believe this was used by Silverback a couple years ago) Or Meet our contract demands, which we think are fair. |

Said the same about Hill |
Quote:
|
The difference with Hill is that they rightly figured they could have success with a different makeup and Kelce has always been the chains mover.
Jones is the 2nd most important player on the team and the defense struggles when he is not on the field. That said he is pricing himself out of town possibly. If so it would be ideal if they could trade him now as the contract extension that’s possibly coming anyway will probably not age well but there is no way to replicate his production this coming season….tag and trade next offseason is not a bad idea. He’s not sitting out the season, too much $ to leave on the table. Agreeing not to tag isn’t happening. Regardless I don’t blame them for paying him if that’s how it goes. |
I wonder how much stressing Jones is doing each day? The fine my not be too much to him, but I wonder if the team is letting his mind wonder?
|
Quote:
Jones seems to be treating an outlier contact (Donald) like the baseline. Like with Watson’s fully guaranteed deal, it’s not a precedent. Stand-off seems pretty tense. Solid 40% CJ is traded. |
Quote:
|
How much in a trade could we get for Chris Jones? It is really not a very smart strategy to give up a bunch of draft picks AND have to make the guy the highest paid at the position. Miami did that for Hill -- maybe a team would do that for Jones, too.
Chris Jones is close to getting shipped out of town. He may make a few more million but then it is going to dawn on him that it's not going to change his lifestyle at all, and he's not having nearly as much fun because he won't be competing for championships every single year. |

Quote:
How do you know ow he is about to get shipped out of town? Are you in on the meetings with Varth and Andy Ried and Clark Hunt? Chiefs are set to runic back to the Super Bowl but really need Jones on the field. |

Chiefs' Chris Jones: Jalen Hurts Had Best Super Bowl QB Performance I've Ever Seen |
Quote:
|
It's gonna be pretty difficult to win the AFC in it's current state this season with the DL you'd have left after you trade Jones and can't add anything back worth much.
Trade him next year if you wanna trade him, but you'd have to tag and trade and that's a 33.5 million dollar hit on your cap during FA. So this is why Jones has a fair amount of leverage here. The Chiefs need him to win a SB this year and cant' really tag him next year with that hit. |

Quote:
Oh yes the old player hating on Mahomes we've seen this song and dance before obviously Mahomes saw the show. He will revisit this after we win our Super Bowl this season. |
At this point I think the Chiefs should entertain a new contract that, in full, would net a sum he'd like, but it would be laden with performance requirements to achieve the difference between what he's getting now and the addition. It's important that the Chief demand "#1 or #2" performance for "#1 or #2" pay. Ans perhaps that's the current sticking point in whatever communications they might be having with him, but the team needs to make sure they for performance into any new deal they have with him.

1: Of all the Jalen Hurts pep talks to his team, how ironic is it that the chose him preaching ball security? Superbowl fumble 6. 2: Chris is entitled to his opinion, but I think a QB leading his team to a Superbowl victory/Mvp on one leg is far more impressive than the guy who fumbled the ball for a touchdown completely unforced in a game lost by 3 points. |
Quote:
|
I mean he has an argument. Mahomes was the most efficient mistake free QB to play a SB game probably, maybe next to Steve Young anyway but Hurts aside from the fumble was incredible. And the comment was made when asked about Hurts during the Top 100 players segment so.....I wouldn't get too worried about it.

Not trying to bring them up but damn man. I don't see how the Eagle don't go back to the SB unles they just crater due to injuries. The MFC is so damn weak.
The 49ers are up there with them in talent but I don't think Brock Purdy is winning that game |
Quote:
|
Hurts' SB stats are great on paper, but I don't see an all-time great SB performance when I watch that game. He completed an unusually high number of 50/50 jump balls ala Deshaun Watson in Houston, and did a great job of being pushed in the back by his teammates in short yardage situations.
|
The Eagles had an easy schedule, but they're really talented and the NFC is the Cowboys, the 9ers and a barrel of meh.

Quote:
He's refusing to play for another team, not showing up to camp, wants more money than the team is willing to pay, and the team's starting three-tech right now is Daniel Wise. Tell me where the win in this situation is. I suppose he's never been convicted of strangling a pregnant woman. So he has that going for him. |
