That post was about why you don't use top 5 picks on 5 tech ends.
You know what defensive ends are worth top 5 picks? The one's that get sacks. Personally I don't like the 3-4 and I'm not happy we're running it. |
Quote:
But you're talking about contract value justifying not taking a pick. And 5-techniques are paid as much and in many instances more than nose tackles. So I don't buy the argument that they're not important. Everyone knows that nose tackles are the most important piece ot a 3-4. If that's the case, then why are they often paid less than 5-techniques? Draft value and salary value, in my opinion, will change a lot as more teams start running a 3-4. That's one reason I've debated whether I'm for/against the 3-4. But that doesn't mean you reach/overpay once you decide you're going to runi t. |

And for ****'S SAKE, could you get to the goddamn point without using 2,000 ****ing words in each post? JFC. |
Quote:
So you're going to tell me that because nose tackles dont' get paid, they're not important. I get it. Because nose tackles dont' get paid, perhaps 3-4 defenses should stop worrying about it. |

You JUST said that NT's get paid as much as 3-4 defensive ends. PROVE IT or SHUT THE **** UP. |

I dont have ignorant hope for him. I have realistic goals for him though, that may be a bit higher than what you have. I dont expect him to show up and start sacking qbs every other game and racking up all his tackles behind the line. I expect him to do his job and add a level of leadership to this defense in coming years. Thats about it. The only part of my post that was speculation was the part you didnt clear, convenient. "most people here" is a very telling statement. I could say the same about the Coalition but there were those of us that were very cautiously optimistic about him the moment he was drafted. He ran around blockers instead of taking them on and shedding. he didnt form tackle and went for the ESPN shots more than the tackles that help the defense get opposing offenses off the field. He was drafted as a big play linebacker, which basically means he has to be protected and surrounded by talent to be fully taking advantage of his skill set. Instead, he was dropped off in KC where we have had no talent around him and he has been exposed for his weaknesses instead of building off his strengths. Its what we do/have done. Misuse talent. Its what were good at. Im a big football nerd. I buy three or four magazines every year and spend a bunch of hours comparing reports on different players from different online sources and the mags to see similarities that allow me to form my opinions and dont chime in unless I have something to say and dont speak out of my ass as "most people here" do. If that board didnt crash a little over a year ago, I would copy and paste some of my posts from that time span to show I wasnt part of that herd of sheep. But, please, do believe whatever you choose. You will see over time that I am right a lot more than I am wrong about players and the game. Im sure some of our conversations over the years will be more interesting than the games on Sunday! Hopefully not! time will tell buddy, it will be fun! Happy Holidays!!! |

NT Casey Hampton - 5 years, $22.75M Jamal Williams - 5 years, $27.5M Kelly Gregg - 4 years, $20.3M Jason Ferguson, 5 years, $21.5M Jay Ratliff - 5 years, $20.5M Kris Jenkins - 5 years, $30.25M Average: $4.92M/year 3-4 DE Aaron Smith - 5 years, $24.5M Louis Castillo - 5 years, $43.1M Igor Olshansky - 4 years, $18M Trevor Pryce - 5 years $25M Brett Keisel - 5 years, $18.9M Ty Warren - 5 years, $36M Shaun Ellis - 6 years, $33M Average: $5.67M Feel free to find anything different. And that's NOT including Richard Seymour, which would bring that average way up. There are 4 DE paid higher than Kris Jenkins, the richest Nose Tackle on the market. And on the Steelers, the Chargers, the Ravens, and the Patriots, they have a 3-4 DE paid more handsomely than their Nose Tackle. They obviously think their 3-4 DE carries more dollar value than a Nose Tackle. You are very, very wrong on this. Admit you were wrong. For once. |

You have to take a look at the ages of those players, not just the contracts. Casey Hampton? Kris Jenkins? Jay Ferguson? Why are you comparing guys that have been in the league for a decade versus guys who are on their second contract? |

We're talking about $1,175k in difference. $1,175,000.00. That ALONE is worth one year in age. |

I said that 5-techniques were paid as much and, in many instance, more than nose tackles. Clearly, Smith and Hampton are paid "as much." And clearly guys like Seymour and Louis Castillo are paid a shit ton more than any nose tackle. Age or not, we're not talking a few million. We're talking about $15-30M above the highest paid Nose Tackle. Why can't you just admit it when you're wrong. You're wrong on this point. Right now, you're just arguing semantics. |

Lol. Looks like 5-techs are considered pretty damn valuable by people who actually earn a living in the NFL. |

Yo Pioli, Thanks for Chambers.
|
So now that we've signed this Safety from Vanderbilt, we've snow-plowed the road for some glorious draft FAIL in 2010!
Oh Scott, PLEASE let your FAIL this year surpass any and all other FAIL's that came before it; Chiefs Nation morans are counting on you, Big Guy! |
Bump...I'm sure were gonna need it by weeks end...

Nice,we should probably expect 10 or so new pages in this thread by the weekend.

I wonder how many of the posters had to have their stomachs pumped due to a Pioli semen overdose. ****ing pathetic, but it still doesn't stop them from drinking his juice again this year. |

Reading back through this thread...it's just a giant Pioli jizz licking session. Defending that pick is just the pure definition of homer.
And it was even being perpetuated by some unusual suspects. But it's what I remember the draft and the days following it last year were literally the shittiest times in this forums history. |

Yea that picture is seriously needed.
GoChiefs can you make another one? A picture of Pioli's face with the caption 'I don't know what 1st round value means" we may need it. |

I should definitely be graded down by not giving the full-on "F" in month four. Dane's venom pretty much carried the thread. |
I'm glad I use that lead gif so sparingly. It gave this thread the necessary oomph.
Without reading it, I remember some of the asinine posts in here, like claims that I had this loaded up and ready to go before the Jackson selection, stevie claiming that Pioli would make piss run down my leg, all kinds of absolutely reeruned shit. |

"I think we should lay off Pioli a little bit, fellas. In my humble opnion Mr. Peterson did nothing in his tenure with the Chiefs organization. There are a great deal of complaints being bandied about here, about which I am very surprised. These complaints, in my opnion, are undeserved. In my humble opinion I do not believe Mr. Peterson would have addressed the many pressing needs our organization suffers. He never signed a quality QB or WR, by golly! (Gentlemen, I was using sarcasm in that last sentence!) The fact is, Mr. Pioli has done more and I truly believe he will do more in the future. Not to be redundant or over state anything, but that, sirs is a fact. Mark my words, that which I have said in the preceding message will come to pass." More Pioli hate. Great. Petro today said it best. No one, fan or media, has the info that any coach or GM has. They haven't talked to the players, or studied as much film. So all the self proclaimed experts out there don't know what they're talking about. I'm not saying Pioli is going to be great, but jeez, give the guy some time, another year, before calling for his head.
