Seriously, now that Trent Williams has fallen off physically who's the LT?

Darrisaw maybe? Decker?

Mailata is really good, I'd probably go there.

But hell......how many of those guys are there in the league these days? 2 maybe?

As we've seen, Pat needs to trust whoever is out that or he gets wound up and leaves pockets. I get it, he gets hit alot, so it makes sense but he trusted OBJ.

Did he?

Because I think if he'd have gone to bat for OBJ, he'd be here. If your franchise QB tells the coach -- "Hey, I really trust that he has my blind side covered out there and would like us to keep him..." we're gonna do that rather than go into FA and sign Taylor who MIGHT be a LT convert (and ultimately wasn't).

I think part of the reason they changed the nature of what they looked for at OT was BECAUSE Mahomes didn't entirely trust him. He got a little spoiled by Fish and Schwartz.

Darrisaw gets injured a ton, he's out for this season.

Could be. He played like he did, but it's possible he didn't.

Either way, I dunno the fix here. You're gonna have to either pay, trade up or just.....well hope Kingsley works out or some late rounder or something develops.

O.city 12-12-2024 12:47 PM

I'm just not seeing a way they fix the LT spot with someone everyone is gonna be happy with.

Unless for some reason Rashawn Slater gets away from the Bolts in a year or two.

Wirfs is probably the guy I like the most. Slater is right there. And Tunsil remains about as reliable a pass protector as the league has -- been that guy for a long time now.

Mailata is just in such a strange offense that I don't know how to grade him. Miller and Bolles have both developed into really nice OTs.

Taylor Moton's carrying a $31 million cap hit next season but as he enters his walk year with 3 void years left on his deal (and a young QB) that seems to make him more of a prime extension candidate in Carolina than a trade target. He's probably right near the top of the next tier of pretty solid OTs but not 'Dudes'.

Bottom line is that I think we need to have Andy at Cam Robinson's front door the moment the legal tampering window opens. I just don't see anybody out there that's close in terms of fit, skill set and availability. And I don't see the Vikings taking a $21 million cap charge to franchise tag him for the purposes of trading him. That would bind them up badly at the start of the FA period and would MAYBE yield them a 4th round pick.

Feels like he really needs to be the big offseason addition and you keep an eye on Kinglsey as a possible Taylor replacement in 2026.

I'd be happy with Robinson. Not elated, but content.

But man, if we sign him, everyone saying "WE NEED TO PROTECT MAHOMES REGARDLESS OF COST!!!" is gonna be pissed when the numbers come out.

I don't think he'd re-set the OT market, but I could see him landing in the $22-23 million range with a pretty good chunk of that guaranteed. He'll start at the Dion Dawkins deal and probably get about a 5-10% kicker based on cap increases.

Nobody's gonna be super stoked about that but it is what it is.

I'm just not a fan of Tunsil anymore it seems he's physically not the same guy. I dunno. Wirfs was the guy I'd have loved to have had but that's just not a possibility.

Is Andrew Thomas any good? If the Giants wanna reset....I might make a call there.

O.city 12-12-2024 01:04 PM

Ronnie Stanley is gonna be a FA, if he gets away from the Ravens. That might be a buy lower spot.

Look, ESPN can make me watch Giants games all they want, they CAN'T make me watch the Giants OT.

I have no damn idea if he's any good. I'm just watching Nabors run routes and/or Jones poop on his shoes. There's nothing else worth watching on that team.

He just signed an extension, so nevermind on that one.

Sassy Squatch 12-12-2024 01:16 PM

Huh? Andrew Thomas was extended a while ago

Id say that T experiment may be over if this is the case.

As for LT vs. RT -- it just has much less impact on my analysis given that A) They're both extremely expensive now and B) We need our RT to be able to block as well as our LT because we put our TE off the line as often as we do.

Now I think a good argument exists that the right answer would've been to retain Wylie at a much lower figure than Taylor and then sign, say, Armstead. But at the time Armstead signed, we still had OBJr.

When we signed Taylor, the situation we found ourselves in was one where we HAD to get a guy who at least had the tools to play LT to say 'yes'. Wylie didn't. Taylor does have the physical tools to do that job.

And someone would've paid him LT money, IMO. So again, the market is what the market is. LT vs. RT becomes less and less relevant at that point.

The options were pretty damn limited when we declined to Franchise Brown, couldn't get a reasonable extension done and ultimately entered the off-season without a single OT under contract. We put ourselves in quite a pickle.

I don't know what to even think about Pass Block Win Rate. If you look at those stats right now for the year you will see for interior lineman we have:

Thuney at #1 with only 6 pressures allowed 98% win rate
Creed at #3 with 11 pressures allowed 97% win rate
Trey at #17 with 18 pressures allowed 95% win rate

Then at tackle we have:

Taylor at #13 with 24 pressures allowed and 92% win rate

As a team we are 2nd (72%) in pass block win rate and 2nd (74%) in run block win rate.

So one bad spot on this offensive line has completely ****ed this offense to hell? Patrick Mahomes can't handle one weak link when supposedly the other 4 guys are some of the best at protecting him?

****ing Cincinnati has the 29th (52%) pass block win rate and Joe Burrow looks like an MVP.

So either the metric is flawed some way or something is wrong with what we are doing with the plays or something is wrong with Mahomes.

Tunsil is #14 in PBWR right behind Jawaan Taylor. That seems low for Tunsil though so it's probably a sign of decline.
