Am I missing something here? Why Lyons? 21 hits and 12 runs in his last 2 games GEEZZZ are they trying to sabotage the team? Why not call up Gonzales?

Lyons is on full rest. Gonzales threw yesterday and the bullpen is shot because Justin Masterson is a ****ing shit****.

Masterson is starting vs Cubs this weekend. Gonzalez should get that start. Or Martinez. The dude has such an upside, we should take the growing pains and see if that #1/#2 upside materializes.

How bad were the Cards hurting for pitching to trade for Masterson?

Family member who is a Cards fan asked me about the trade and I had heard of his name from the Indians but didn't know if he was actually any good. So we looked him up and I literally laughed my ass off. You've got a team fighting for the division/wildcard spot and they pick up a guy that had something like a 6+ ERA with a 1.6 WHIP. That made as much sense to me as when the Cubs announced they backed up a Brinks truck in ****ing Edwin Jacksons driveway.

He was hurt and had been an All-Star in the past. Moving to a different league, even with the velocity drop, I can see how an argument could be made that as his knee improved he'd gain some zip on his fastball and become a passable end of the rotation pitcher.

That obviously hasn't happened, so instead of torpedoing 1/5 of your remaining games, just cut the one who sucks the penis. He can't bring any draft pick compensation, he has the control of 2001 Rick Ankiel and the heart of Jamie Garcia.

At this point, I'd just be happy if he could throw strikes.

There is an issue with all our young stud pitchers stalling or back sliding their progress this year.

The Cardials have a history of picking up "trash" pitchers at the deadline and striking pitching gold for a 1/2 season with the trade. Weaver. Mujica etc. We gave up a guy who has 5 corner outfielders in front of him. With Taveras and Holliday penciled in for at least two more years.....there was no room at the inn for Ramsey. I was okay with the trade because of their history turning around pitchers.

I'm fine with trying to strike gold again when dumpster diving at the trade deadline. But, when you have 6 or so games and there is no improvement, its time to cut bait.

My dad spends a lot of his free time expressing his anger and frustration with Blowsenthal. He doesn't piss him off as much as Tony Cruz, but it's close. His diastolic rises the moment he takes the mound.

I don't get why Cruz is playing. He offers nothing more than AJ. AJ has an 80 point BA advantage over Cruz. But, he is a RH bat so he gets the start. :banghead:

We are going to have to watch at least 5-6 blown saves before Matheny pulls Rosenthal.

I saw this stat last night

Taveras has hit .367/.406/.433 in eight starts since, having worked to shorten his swing so as to handle big league fastballs.

OT took instruction and modified his swing. Thats a damn good sign of his growing maturity. He screwed up last night swinging at the first strike he saw with bases loaded. He will soon realize you can swing at that pitch on a 3rd strike, not the first. Part of the learning process.

I've read at least 3 national articles in the last couple of days that almost all the top prospects in baseball struggling to live up to their potential right out of the gate. It's not just Oscar. We as Cardinals fans need some patience with him. .308/18/100 hitters don't grow on trees.

Biggest surprise to me........... Mabry actually improved a hitter.

I guess Mike was saving Choate to pitch to a lefty in the 15th inning or something. :shake:
