We just traded for a .250 hitter so we could pull a relatively young, productive .300 hitter out of the lineup. On a team that struggles on offense. Brilliant!! |

The Royals have 3 days off from July 19th through September 19th. Every player is going to have a day off or two in that time span.

I'm sure if Maxwell gets even a single today all the baseball 'experts' will stand up an yell 'see, see ... that's how baseball works!'
not many things more pompous in the world than a baseball traditionalist |

Indians up 3-0 already.

Maxwell is, according to the stats, going to get on base MORE often against LHP at the major league level. Don't be too old school in looking at this. Average is nice, but OBP is important, too. Especially for a guy hitting down in the lineup. |

Go Maxwell...swing that silver hammer down upon the Twinkies head!

Are you ever right? Maxwell hitting against a soft-tosser in Diamond is the right move. A baseball 'traditionalist' would ignore the platoon splits and play the hot hand; this is a 'new school' approach to it. Maxwell gets on base better against lefties than Lough and hits with more authority against lefties than Lough. When a LHP is on the mound, Maxwell is a better option at the plate. Could you have moved Lough over to CF? Sure - he'd have likely done a credible job and Lough isn't a complete liability against LH pitching (though a .320 OBP is pretty bad). But to argue that Maxwell's in the lineup merely to justify a trade is just stupid. Maxwell's a legitimately dangerous hitter against lefties and a plus fielder. The Royals lineup is much better for having him in it against Diamond. But please, go back to bitching about nothing. |

No, it's how probabilities work.
When you put a guy in to face a lefty that is statistically more likely to succeed against lefties than the alternative option, then one shouldn't be all that taken aback when he actually succeeds. It's important to remember that Laz is routinely among the most ill-informed and irrational posters this board has to offer. |
If he's any good, any chance we re-name the K "Maxwell House"?
|
Hey, I was thinking about this yesterday. We all have heard of the "Rule 5 Draft." What happened to Rules 1 thru 4? And what are those rules???

What are rules 1 2 and 3???

Maxwell - who again has a .379 lifetime OBP against lefties - also drew a walk and later scored against Diamond.
So the guy that hits lefties well, who's mere appearance in the lineup against a lefty today was a travesty and a sin against mankind, managed to get on base twice in his 3 ABs against said lefty, scoring a run and driving in another. That's some seriously pompous, traditionalist bullshit right there. Laz: Idiot. |

Yeah we got our kid hooked on Royals baseball. Ultra Peanut will be over later to discuss the birds and bees....we are proud of our little guy.

Harold Reynolds thinks the Royals will make the playoffs over instead of the Indians.
|
This morning before today's game, the playoff odds at baseball prospectus actually dropped for the Royals to win the division, but the odds of winning the wild card went up a lot.
We're now at 0.3% to win the Central, 2.5% to win a wild card, 2.8% overall for the playoffs. I imagine tomorrow we'll be somewhere over 3%. Our odds of winning the world series also went up, from 0.0% to 0.1%. |

33 years ago this Summer was the last time KC started a road trip 6-0,I guarantee I was too stoned to remember.
|
Ever since Miguel Tejada has been starting at second base we have been on a winning streak. We didn't need a second baseman, We got Tejada.

6.5 games back in the division. 4.5 games back from a wildcard spot. 9-1 in last 10 games and those 9 wins have all been consecutive. It'll be amazing if we make it 10-0.

Good shit fellas!! I been keeping an eye on the Royals lately. not bad. keep it up.

I just got back from Minnesota...went out to the series opener at Target Field on Tuesday night.
I know KC isn't far from Minneapolis, but it seemed like there were quite a few Royals fans at the game, the MOA, and all over my hotel. Just love how Santana put down the gauntlet promising to own the 2nd half and backing it up like he has. I'm a little worried about the Mets, and I honestly don't know why. NL? No Billy? Either way, let's win that series and at least come home with an 8-1 roadie. |
Well, Dangit. Indians, Orioles, and Rangers all won. At least the Royals gained half a game on the idle Tigers and Yankees.
|
The Red Sox just scored 6 runs in the 9th to beat Seattle. Seems like the teams that are hot right now are completely unstoppable.

I'm worried about the Mets because Wade is starting tomorrow.

God that'd be some funny ass star-aligning kinda shit. I'd put $100 down on the Royals winning the WS if that happened. |
Wanksta Wade bitches!

Just saw this on Royals Corner. Hosmer and Moose are leading the Royals in OPS for July at .847 and .831 respectively. I'm assuming some still wish to send them to AAA?

Fangraphs has some great data on what the Royals are doing.
Offense: #26 in weighted runs created. 13% below MLB average. Pitching: #10 in fielding independent pitching (ERA). Defense: #1 in defensive runs saved. #3 in outfield arm efficiency. #5 in double play runs saved. #1 in range. #1 in ultimate zone rating. #1 in ultimate zone rating per 150 games. (Highest MLB rating in past 5 years) I think it's pretty clear why we have a winning record this year. |
Yep. James Shields

Do you think there's something to the fact that of the six oldest roster members, four are starting pitchers? Perhaps some quiet (save for Shields) leadership taking place on the bump? PS: I simply can't believe T Collins is only 23. |

"Second baseman Christian Colon and first baseman Ben Broussard both extended hitting streaks as the Storm Chasers won 4-2 at Tacoma. Colon was two for five and is batting .385 (15 for 39) with three home runs in a 10-game hitting streak." The only problem is Colon is not on the 40 man roster. |
Duncan, I think its time for a new 2013 Repository

The Royals have played 65% of their schedule. In football terms, the first quarter of the 10th game has just ended. In football terms, the Royals are basically only a half game back of the last wildcard spot. There is still plenty of baseball left to play. |
it is fantastic to be excited about the royals in early august!!!
let's go royals!!!! |
