edit: welp, so much for that. That was a slick submission, Woodley deserved that win.

Not much of a showing from Till. He did basically nothing in the 1st round and then got the shit kicked out of him in the 2nd. Great card last night overall, really one of the best of the year.

Joanna likes to call herself the Boogie Woman, but I think Andrade showed us what that actually looks like yesterday.

I've never seen anything like it. It was scary to watch.

Lol, wow.

For those who don't know, it is a lot easier for men to cut weight, female fighters have to come into fight week a lot closer to their target weight than male fighters. A female flyweight coming in 20 pounds over is just ****ing stupid.

The UFC goes to Russia for the first time this weekend with a card thats kinda crappy.... but the main event should be fun.

Friday

7:30pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 58

Kickboxing

9:15 pm - (Fightpass) - Friday Night Fights

Boxing

Saturday

9:30am - (Fightpass) - UFC Fight Night, Hunt vs. Oleinik

This is a card that is at night local time with pretty much every Russian fighter not named Nurmagomedov. So yeah, it is pretty bad, but the main event should be good!

Pants 09-11-2018 08:07 PM

Werdum got popped by the USADA. :(

2 year suspension as of now.

alnorth 09-11-2018 08:32 PM

I really don't understand why these guys think they can get away with this anymore. Yeah, I know that cage fighters aren't exactly rocket scientists, but man, it is just not worth it.

alnorth 09-15-2018 10:27 PM

Well.... boxing had a bad weekend.

alnorth 09-17-2018 03:07 PM

We're going to Brazil this weekend for a card thats better than most Brazil cards (which are usually garbage)

Wednesday

11pm - (Fightpass) - AFL 141

Those wacky Alaskans are at it again with a Wednesday card. The card itself is terrible, like a lot worse than Pancrase levels of bad, but its on a Wednesday night, so thats the only thing on.

Friday

5pm - (Fightpass) - TKO 44

Based on tapology rankings, its not bad at all for a local promotion. Its one of the better promotions in Canada.

8pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 205, McKee vs Macapa

This is slightly below average for Bellator but they have done a lot worse than this before.

Saturday

7:30pm - (5:30pm Fightpass/7:30pm FS2/9:30pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Santos vs Anders

The UFC web site as of Monday afternoon still lists this as Manuwa vs Santos, but Manuwa is out, and Eryk Anders is replacing him on 6 days notice. That would be a tremendous win for him if he can pull it off, but 6 days in Brazil? That'll be tough, but I gotta see that fight.

The rest of the main card is..... eh. But for a Brazil card its pretty good because Brazil cards have usually been trash. The prelims are OK.

USADA has announced that Jon Jones is suspended for 15 months, and will be eligible to fight in November. USADA did not decide the punishment, they presumably wanted something longer and they want to arbitration.

The arbitrator ruled that Jones did not knowingly cheat. The arbitrator then took the 48 month punishment recommended by the guidelines, reduced it by 30 months because Jones turned in 1 or more fighters, coaches, and/or suppliers to USADA, and got another 3 month reduction for.... something thats unclear.

So, snitches get riches.

I guess I'm interested in hearing about who Jon Jones rolled on. If we get some crazy news about tons of fighters and/or coaches suspended by USADA because of Jones, then the 30 month reduction might make more sense.

The extra 3 months to me just literally reads as "it would be more convenient to let him fight in MSG than in February"

You gotta grade it on a curve.

Lets get real, everyone in the NFL is on steroids. All of them, if they aren't, then they are stupid. Everyone in boxing is juicing, and smart enough to avoid the windows when they know they'll be tested. I'll give some credit to MLB, they seem to be at least somewhat serious, some big important players have been busted and suspended.

OK, now look at the UFC. A shitton of fighters have been popped and suspended, a lot of fighters who were going to headline main events got yanked because of tests, including fighters who were going to headline gigantic fights that were going to bring in mega-dollars. (UFC 200!!!)

In this case, USADA and/or the arbitrator decided that the guys Jon Jones snitched on, who we do not yet know, was worth a very big reduction in his punishment. Maybe we don't agree, but come on, look at what everyone else in the sports and combat entertainment industry is (not) doing.

All of that was before the UFC was sold. They did seem serious about fixing this sport for a while, but Jon Jones being allowed a reduction of 33 months with his track record is a ****ing joke. Just admit you don't give a shit when your biggest stars get popped or assault your other fighters because they're the only ones that bring in big money and move on.

No, it wasn't. Werdum JUST got popped, like this week. That is a HUGE blow to the UFC's plans. They would have loved to feature Werdum in a main event.

Again, you have to grade it on a curve, everyone in the NFL is on steroids, and if you just ignore all of that and cheer on Sundays (like I do), then don't grade the UFC on a much stricter, harsher standard than the NFL.

Yeah, Werdum is a nice draw and all, but he isn't Jon Jones. Also, when a Denver Broncos player runs up to our team bus and chucks a dolly at the glass, injuring 4 or 5 of our players, and gets a slap on the wrist and continues to play, let me know.

So, even with just 6 fights it will take Conor a decade or more to finish the contract at his current rate.

It's pretty obvious Dana is hoping for a McGregor win, so I hope more than anything that Khabib drags Conor to the ground and embarrasses him.

Jon Jones was pulled right before UFC 200, and that caused the PPV to take a huge hit. This is legit, USADA is not playing around.

Why would USADA give a shit about someone throwing stuff at a bus?

You just want to be contrarian at this point, even though your original point was flawed, you just can't admit you were wrong.

But sure, go ahead and act like the UFC isn't embarrasing themselves with McGregor and USADA isnt corrupt by reducing the Jon Jones suspension to conveniently right when he would be ready to fight after his conditioning based solely on "evidence" he turned in and saying "trust me, I didn't do it."

They do not, but the accusation is that USADA is somehow compromised and trying to help the UFC out while only giving them a thin appearance of cleaning up the sport.

That theory is horseshit because of UFC 200, among other things.

lol, for crying out loud, USADA wanted a higher punishment, this was a decision by the arbitrator.

alnorth 09-27-2018 06:23 PM

There is a lot going on in fightpass this weekend.

Thursday

6pm - (Fightpass) - Karate Combat

This is very similar to MMA, except grappling on the ground is discouraged and standups are quick.

Saturday

noon - (Fightpass) - Glory 59

Kickboxing

3pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 97

This card is not bad by local promotion standards.

7pm - (Fightpass) - EBI 17, The middleweights CJJ

9pm - (DAZN) - Bellator 206, Mousasi vs. MacDonald.

This is a pretty decent card as Bellator kicks off their Welterweight Grand Prix

10:30pm - (Fightpass) - XFN 352

This is a small card in Oklahoma, but there's only one reason to care. Greg Hardy will be fighting on this card.

alnorth 09-29-2018 10:49 PM

Greg Hardy destroyed another random dude in less than a minute.

alnorth 10-02-2018 02:36 PM

The main event for UFC 230 in Madison Square Garden has been announced, AND IT IS!!!! *sad trombone*

Jesus Christ. It is a fight that New York should probably not sanction.

BREAKING: Valentina Shevchenko vs. Sijara Eubanks for the vacant flyweight tile will headline UFC 230 on Nov. 3 in Madison Square Garden, per multiple sources.
— Brett Okamoto (@bokamotoESPN) October 2, 2018

Shevchenko is 15-3 in MMA, and freaking 84-2 in Muay Thai.

Eubanks (who?) is..... 3-2

alnorth 10-03-2018 05:40 PM

I think there might be a fight this weekend

Friday

9pm - (Fightpass) - Quintet 3

This is a pretty cool concept. Teams of 5 grapplers compete in submission-only matches one at a time. If time expires, both fighters are eliminated. Winner stays and fights the next until one team runs out of grapplers.

9pm TV - (NBCSN) - PFL 8

This is the opening round of PFL's playoffs for heavyweights and featherweights. The non-televised prelims are probably going to be on Facebook.

Saturday

7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FS1/9pm PPV) - UFC 229, Khabib vs. McGregor

Conor finally decides it is time to let us see him fight again, and this time he is the betting underdog against the terrifying Khabib Nurmagomedov. The main card aside from the main event is very good. The prelims are... meh. There are maybe 3 or 4 decent prelim and early prelim fights

alnorth 10-05-2018 10:01 AM

UFC 229 weigh-ins (official, not the ceremonial weigh-in) is starting now. If something really bad happens to the card, it will most likely be now.

https://www.mmafighting.com/2018/10/...weigh-in-video

alnorth 10-05-2018 10:02 AM

Khabib was first on the scale right when it opened, 155, championship weight.

edit: So, these fighters are having trouble making weight (or possibly trying to make a show of it):

Conor McGregor
Anthony Pettis
Alexander Volkov
Aspen Ladd

Everyone else on the card has weighed in and made weight.

edit2: Tony Ferguson made championship weight at 155, Conor is probably just making a big late drama show of his weigh-in, but if for some reason he fails to make weight, then Ferguson made sure that he would be eligible for the title fight.

edit3: Conor McGregor just now weighed in, 154.5

So, the main event is now on
