This card has been downgraded from "awesome PPV" to just "a pretty good PPV", so it probably does not deserve its own thread.

I forgot to put up the schedule. PFL is tonight on NBC Sports, 8pm. Facebook prelims are on right now.
Ultimate Fighter Finale tomorrow night on FS1, 7pm with fightpass prelims before that. UFC 226 on Saturday night FS1 (7pm) and PPV (9pm). Fightpass prelims before that. |

DC tripped and fell on stage during the pre fight presser (like Tony Ferguson) but for now the fight is still on.

We dont know the cause of Max Holloway's problems this week yet, but Dana White said that they think he made a mistake on the water loading portion of his weight cut. (Before you cut weight, you first drink a ton of water for a while to get your body used to getting rid of water as quickly as possible, then you stop drinking to begin the cut, your body doesnt get the memo and keeps trying to get rid of water ASAP). They think he may have drank way too much and caused water intoxication.

Anyone got a good link for tonight's fight?

Costa is a beast
|
Do you think Dana dislikes Ngannou more than Woodley?
|
Super hyped for Cormier/Miocic. I had a lot of trouble picking a winner. When I can't pick a winner, I go with the Champ.
Ngannou needs to go back to the prelims if he's going to fight like that. Good god what a joke. |
Lesnar coming into the Octagon and shoving dude was so ****ing fake.
|
Quote:
But it sells $tix$. People are most definitely going to watch. I dont think Lesnar has a chance at all unless by some miracle he gets DC to the ground and sits on him and deflates all the air out of him. Cormier is better than Lesnar at Lesnar's strongest discipline. Lesnar has more strength, size, and fuel tank than DC, if he can somehow GnP and tire him out he could win, but that's very doubtful. Most likely DC comes after Lesnar early with hands and Brock fails at being able to defend himself, much like the Velasquez fight. |

We've got a pretty decent free card this weekend.
Friday 8pm TV - (Paramount) - Bellator 202, Budd vs Nogueira This is about average to maybe a bit below average for a Bellator event, capped off by a WFW title fight. Saturday 1pm - (Fightpass) - Polaris 7 This is a BJJ grappling event. It will probably be entertaining. 7pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 203, Pitbull vs Weichel 2 Bellator has decided to compete against a very good UFC card for some stupid reason. This will not end well for them, as the UFC card is significantly better, but for what its worth, this card is.... well, its below average by Bellator standards, which makes this move even more questionable. 7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Dos Santos vs Ivanov This is a very good card by free TV standards. How good? Darren "the damage" Elkins is in the prelims, and he's not even the feature prelim, thats how good. Don't get me wrong, it would be a bad PPV, but on free TV this card is freakin stacked. Sunday Night/Monday Morning 1am - (Fightpass) - Quintet 2 Quintet is very fun to watch, its basically a team grappling event where teams of 5 grapplers compete one at a time against other grappling teams in a tournament. The only thing that sucks about this is that this is in Japan, so its in the middle of the night. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series |
|
Edmond Tarverdyan is a UFC coach again.
That kid he's working with is doomed. |
This next weekend is going to be extremely busy if you make use of fightpass.
Thursday 7pm TV - (5pm Facebook/7pm NBC Sports) - PFL 2018 #4: Regular Season We're starting Thursday with PFL and the mad scramble for $1 million at the end of the year. Their regular season continues with fighters trying to qualify for their playoffs. This particular card looks decent, pretty good for a B-level promotion. Friday 6:30pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 55 Kickboxing. I don't usually watch it, but its on Fightpass. Saturday 3pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 95 This card looks about average for a local promotion, with a WW title fight. This is the top feeder league in Europe for the UFC. 7pm - (Fightpass) - Invicta FC 30 Live from Kansas City, this card has an Atomweight title fight. It is very difficult to compare Invicta to other promotions, but you should know what your in for if you want to watch it. This is the top women's-only feeder league for the UFC. This card looks..... I'd say below average, they usually do better. Sunday 11am TV - (9:30 am Fightpass/11am FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Shogun vs. Smith Its on at a weird time because its in Germany. The main card starting at 1pm is OK, its not terrific, but I've seen worse. There is no need to watch the prelims, there's maybe 2 guys I care about at all, the rest are guys that were signed just to fill out the card and will be promptly cut if they don't do something awesome. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series |

We have some pretty good fights this weekend on FOX.
Saturday 1:30pm - (Fightpass) - Olympus This is an event using a pretty new ruleset called Karate Combat. I took a look at it and its very similar to MMA with 2 very big exceptions. First, you can't clinch. If you do clinch, you are expected to immediately attempt a throw, and if its not successful, you let go. Second, they don't really have a ground or submission game. You can do a takedown (or if you knock someone down with strikes), and then they give you about 5 seconds to try to finish the fight, after which you have to stand up. Eh, whatever, I probably won't watch it. 5pm TV - (3pm Fightpass/5pm FOX) - UFC Fight Night, Alvarez vs. Poirier 2 The prelims are OK (the early fightpass prelims are arguably better than the FOX prelims), but the main card is fantastic for free TV. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series |

They need to figure this out. The fighters, the trainers, and the promotions. Sick of every card dramatically changing. Seems guys can't handle the training camps without their TRT or steroids. |

Poirer/Alvarez 1 was a really good fight until the illegal knee. It should be a good rematch. I think the Diamond beats The Underground King by TKO in round 4.

Greg Hardy is fighting again next Tuesday. Also, we have a PPV thats not too bad but only die-hard MMA fans will probably pay for.
Thursday 7pm TV - (5pm Facebook/7pm NBCSN) - PFL 5, 2018 Regular Season PFL has been entertaining so far and I like the concept. Some more guys will make the playoffs or be eliminated on Thursday. Saturday 7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FX/9pm PPV) - UFC 227, Dillashaw vs. Garbrandt 2 The prelims for this PPV are pretty bad. Out of the 7 prelim fights I'm looking at, I really care about...... nobody. I'll probably still watch because why not. In the main card, only the last 3 fights are worth a damn, but we do have two championship fights. God help this PPV if something happens to the main event. It really feels like Dana White and the UFC just checked a box for this one like, "gee, we need a PPV for August so we'lll go with..... that, ok meeting over, moving on". 2am Sunday - (Fightpass) - Pancrase 298 Its Pancrase, as usual the talent level is very low and its in the middle of the night, so.... no thanks, I'm good. Tuesday 7pm - (Fightpass) - Dana White's Tuesday Night Contender Series This is the last one for this season, and the controversial ex-NFL player Greg Hardy will be fighting in this one. |

Everyone made weight. At this point, the only thing that could plausibly go wrong would be kidneys shutting down this evening, or a loss vs the almighty bathtub.

That was an interesting decision to give Cejudo that win, imo. Cejudo scored a lot of takedowns but there was only one time I can recall where he actually did anything with it as far as trying to land punches or work for a submission and that was at the end of round 4, I think, where he got to half and started landing some punches.

Man, I don't understand Cody's strategy.
Both against Cruz and in his first fight with Dillishaw (which, if anyone remembers, TJ was totally saved by the bell at the end of round 1 and Cody was outclassing him completely. Cody used his vastly superior boxing to the round. His footwork was better, but most importantly his punches were tighter, quicker, and in combinations. Against TJ in fight 1 he was just hot dogging too much because he felt like he was in control. Fast forward to this fight, and Cody is tossing those haymaker punches instead of the crisp tight shots he was throwing in the first fight. Instead it was TJ who had the quicker tighter shots, and he was winning the exchanges. All Cody had to do was tone down the hot dogging, and instead it's like he decided to fight more like TJ.. with those kinda whingeing wide punches. I don't get it. Looks like losing to TJ caused him to change up what was making him successful. Guys often over-correct after losses, and sometimes they never rediscover what made them successful in the first place. |
Greg Hardy obliterated his opponent today in 17 seconds.

The UFC is going dark until they go to Lincoln in a few weeks. Here's what else is going on.
Friday 8:30pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 56 Kickboxing Thats it, there's nothing else. |
Once again, the UFC is dark this weekend, but we've got their competitors showing up with some fights.
Thursday 9pm TV - (6pm Facebook/9pm NBCSN) PFL 2018 Regular Season #6 I love the PFL, its a cool concept, and I hope it works out. This night is the second regular season matches for middleweights and welterweights, those are the premier weight classes for MMA and they are all going to be fighting to earn a ticket into the playoffs for the $1MM grand prize. Everyone will be highly motivated to get early finishes, and this might be the best PFL event to date on paper. Friday 8pm TV - (6pm internet/8pm Paramount) Bellator 204, Caldwell vs. Lahat There is no title fight for this event, but this is still a very good card by Bellator's standards. |

Just what I needed after a shitty week at work. |
After a couple weeks away, the UFC returns this weekend in Lincoln with a card thats worth taking a trip over to Nebraska.
Saturday 5am - (Fightpass) - Glory 57 Its kickboxing in Europe, but its very early in the morning. Nah, I'd rather sleep. 7pm TV - (5:30pm Fightpass/7pm FS2/9pm FS1) - UFC Fight Night, Gaethje vs. Vick This is a great main card for free TV with an awesome main event, and the prelims are pretty good too. All of the other major US promotions are still avoiding the NFL preseason, and aside from a minor PFL event next weekend, they are staying away till late September after week 1 kicks off, but the UFC wasn't going to take an entire month off. |
Bryce Mitchell is going to be out for a while due to severe self-inflicted sack trauma.

Holloway will fight Ortega at UFC 231 Dec. 8th, and Amanda Nunes will fight Cyborg at UFC 232 Dec. 29th.
|
Well.... OK. Ultimate Fighter! We gotta talk about it for two reasons, first this next season of TUF will not be the final season, apparently ESPN has decided that they would like to have their own seasons of TUF produced next year, so the show will go on, and second... the first episode of the newest TUF will air... tonight!
It was going to start later this year, but for whatever reason they moved the schedule up, so here we go. This season of TUF is called "Heavy Hitters", for an extremely obvious reason: they feature the heaviest weight class for both men and women. So, this season is men's heavyweight and women's featherweight. This makes a lot of sense because the UFC always badly needs heavyweights, and they also badly need to find challengers (cannon fodder) for Cris Cyborg. edit: the coaches are Whitaker and Gastelum. They will fight for the middleweight title sometime in early 2019 |
I've done the " holy shit the impact just got my ****ing beard" and had to reverse off that mother ****er...
Then lost handfuls of hair lmao. Didn't bother this guy one bit |
Not much going on this weekend
Thursday 8pm TV - (5pm Facebook/8pm NBCSN) - PFL 2018 Regular Season #7 This is the final PFL "Regular Season" Fight card before they cut to 8 in each division and begin their playoffs. Saturday noon - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 96 This is the top "B League" in Europe, and judging by the tapology rankings, this is about average for this promotion. 7pm - (Fightpass) - Invicta FC 31 Looking at the card, even though the main event is their strawweight title, this is probably below average for Invicta. Aside from their main event, there might only be 1 fighter (whoever wins the co-main) with a realistic shot at fighting in the UFC. |
So, Donald Cerrone is apparently not on good terms with Jackson Wink.
He was on JRE today, and after drinking quite a bit, he put them on blast in a real big way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z4TKUEpbtJ8 |
Winkeljohn responded to Cowboy's tirade, basically saying that he has no loyalty to anyone but himself, and he's just blasting them because he's now a competitor with his own gym.
“Loyalty is two sides,” the coach told MMAjunkie. “‘Cowboy’ is not loyal to anybody in the gym. He’s on his own. He does his own thing. He has not, from what I can remember in the last 10 years, ever helped anybody out with their own camp. He’s as narcissistic as they come.” |
Here's the excerpt where Cowboy describes his cave diving disaster

Pretty good PPV this weekend.
Saturday 7pm TV - (5:15pm Fightpass/7pm FX/ 9pm PPV) - UFC 228, Woodley vs. Till The prelims are pretty good, and the main card is decent. Not bad, not incredible, just pretty decent with an interesting championship fight. Sunday 2am - (Fightpass) - Pancrase 299 Pancrase is usually bad, but good lord, based on tapology ranking this card is terrible. Its already tough to stay up to watch Pancrase, but for this? No way. |
The biggest fight this weekend for me will be my son in a jiu-jitsu tournament against what is the closest thing to a prodigy at 11. 19 wins and 18 submissions. My boy can't wait to to get out on the mat against the guy.
Yes I will be buying the PPV. Looks like a good card. |
For those who weren't already aware, Nicco Montaño had a problem with her weight cut, and the co-main event (the women's flyweight championship) is cancelled.
But that doesn't really change the quality of this card, because this fight was always seen as a likely one-sided beatdown. Montaño's challenger was the biggest favorite in UFC championship bout history because everyone with 2 brain cells to rub together believed that the world-class Muay Thai fighter was going to beat the 14th-seeded contestant of the ultimate fighter reality TV show who has a lifetime record of 4-2, and it wouldn't even be very close. That fight is now postponed, but Valentina Shevchenko will still get her belt soon enough. |
lol, the women's flyweight title is now vacant. Nicco has been kicked to the curb.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">UFC president Dana White tells us Nicco Montaño will vacate the flyweight title after having to cut short her weight cut at UFC 228.<br><br>Title challenger Valentina Shevchenko will fight for the vacant belt as soon as she's able, per White.</p>— Phil Murphy (@Phil_Sports) <a href="https://twitter.com/Phil_Sports/status/1038198524867956737?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">September 7, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
This card has been awesome, and the main event is up! Darren Till has been pretty unlikeable and arrogant, but his opponent is... Tyron Woodley. So, shine on you crazy Brit, go get that belt, because the current champ is by far the most boring fighter in the UFC, and he needs to be shoved aside.
edit: welp, so much for that. That was a slick submission, Woodley deserved that win. |
