I don't care, Jones time is limited so he understanably wants to get as much as possible with what's left of his NFL career. The Chiefs have to think about paying everyone else which is also understandable. Both have leverage and are using it, eventually they'll probably agree on something they both find acceptable. Can't really blame either party for taking the position they're taking IMO

No dislike for Jones and do care about the outcome.

It seems Jones is probably asking fair market value. Chiefs are legitimately limited on what they can do cap-wise without impacting other positions. Both sides appear committed to getting a 3rd contract done w/o Jones hitting the open market.

Chris Jones isn't nice at all... unless he signs or shows up. Then he will seem nice again.

Probably a little.

Or more like once you move to the "it's just business" column there's really no way to move back to being more than that. There's really nothing wrong with keeping it business either, but don't expect more than the business when your ****ing wheels fall off two years from now and you're traded to a dumpster fire with money to burn. Pat and Kelce have set the loyalty bar so high it's probably unfair to expect very many players to live up to that level or commitment, but it exists and other players are going to be judged by it.

Not giving the team an out on the 4th year is a pretty big deal. ...assuming that's what's even actually happening.

Nah... Rewatched the game. Saints pulled out a non vanilla offense in preseason game 1. They wanted and needed to make a good impression with Carr in preseason game 1. Meanwhile, the Chiefs, per the players, have one of, if not the hardest camps in the league. This was not a typical game week. The Chiefs practiced hard all week, got on a flight Saturday and flew to NO for a meaningless preseason game. There was not detailed game plan or film study on Carr and the new NO offense. Would Chris Jones had helped. Sure, but not nearly as much as he is getting credit.

This is all a charade. The Chiefs don't really have to do anything. Chris Jones will play this year. Sounds like the Chiefs are offering around 25M and Jones wants 30M a year. Chiefs can just sit on their ass and eventually Jones will have to accept THEIR number. What is he going to do sit out game after game losing millions and millions? No. He has to play to get paid.

The Chiefs can also threaten to tag him if they want to play hardball as further incentive to not pay him what he actually wants. Shit, he's lucky the Chiefs are willing to give him 25M. They could be dicks and be like yanno we only wanna give you 20M per and not much he could even do about it.

No, they're offering what he wants. However, the Chiefs want a lower gurwnteed number in case his production drops off due to his age. Jones wants that security.

This was the first time Aaron Donald wasn't the best defensive player in the league. Chris Jones was robbed of DPOTY, but I digress. There's a certain point in time where the Chiefs have to look at Jones and ask how many prime years he has left, and are his best days behind him?

Meanwhile, Jones knows that even with some drop off he's one of the elite players of his generation.

KC is one of the few times that can get away without paying a WR top dollar. Running backs make nothing these days. Mahomes' contract is a bargain at this point in time, too.

There's room for this to work out, but the proximity of the season is worrying.

You have absolutely no idea what’s being offered.

I’m pretty certain he is being offered money. That’s about all we are pretty sure of here.

IMHO, it's smart for Jones to only listen to offers that involve money, and not like a mystery box.
