Oh snap is FOS. Disregard his post.

Here’s an example of what I posted about earlier.

There is a lot wrong with this post.

After CPR many ems protocols dictate sedation, cooling. You don’t want someone waking up in the ambulance, fighting the care team, fighting the ET tube

Much easier to care for someone sedated.

Certainly CPR is a grim situation, and he could have a hypoxic brain injury, but you are really jumping to inappropriate conclusions

Ofcourse it's speculation. That's what this entire site is about. And yes they would sedate him out of precaution. You still follow protocols. None of this addresses the possibility that he could be and is brain dead. 9 minutes of continuous CPR is hell.

Still, I'm pretty sure the league rules say you can't travel the day of a game. Though maybe there is wiggle room given the situation.

Great point. Although I think the reason is so that delays on game day travel don’t cause a game to not proceed as scheduled, so it sure seems like they might make an exception.

I think that's probably because they don't want to cancel a game because of travel issues.

In this case, the travel would actually be making the game possible.

I assume we'll get some sort of indication about what the league plans to do here going forward? Because Hamlin's medical situation may not get resolved for quite a while. They can't exactly afford to wait for it.

I saw both the Byrd injury and many years later the Shazier one during the broadcasts, and among other things, I could tell that they'd come up with a program for how to deal with neck/back injuries. Same with concussions, right? They have it down to a checklist.

Players almost dying doesn't come up that often, so it's probably not in the book.

I read each preseason a couple of deaths across the nation each year from high school / college level practicing in the early season heat. If you really dig you will find a ton of unfortunate deaths due to football.

The Chiefs played Miami on a Friday night the day they arrived to get in front of a hurricane. 2005, maybe? Totally and clearly different circumstances, obviously, but there is precedent.

20 deaths in 2021.

Yeah, this isn’t like trying to get a bill signed into law. Pretty sure the commissioner can grant an exception and I doubt any owner would object. This is an extremely rare event that isn’t really planned for.

SupDock 01-02-2023 11:20 PM

If they are playing tomorrow, I think we find out soon. There are a lot of people that will need to start preparing.

No. Just the NFL explaining their decision making in real time during the injury.

Something to remember, a man with experience isn't at the mercy of a man with an opinion. CPR was administered because he wasn't breathing. 9 minutes of continuous cpr means he wasn't breathing for 9 minutes.
I'm shocked they didn't slap an AED on him as soon as possible.

We're all trying to figure out what happened. We're all trying to get good info in hopes the worst case scenario is off the table. That's all. Carry on

Didn't look to me like there was any decision making. At least not until the teams' coaches left the field.
