This week its all on Fightpass, so lets see what you get for your subscription...
Friday 5pm - (Fightpass) - TKO 42 This is a local Canadian promotion thats fairly high level, and this show is no exception. Judging by tapology rankings, this looks like a pretty good card by B-level local promotion standards. If you don't like basketball, this is a decent alternative. Saturday 12:45pm - (Fightpass) - UFC Fight Night, Werdum vs. Volkov I subscribe to fightpass because I'm a crazy UFC fan and I gotta have the early prelims sometimes. Many months I probably don't get my money's worth, but its cards like this which make it worth it. This would not be a bad card on free TV, so its a really good fightpass only card. The 4 fights on the main card are pretty good, with a decent main event. After this event, we've got nothing until the next PPV in 3 weeks. |

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">The main event is set!<a href="https://twitter.com/FabricioWerdum?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@FabricioWerdum</a> (and his chair) face off with <a href="https://twitter.com/AlexDragoVolkov?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@AlexDragoVolkov</a> 😂<br>The main event is SET for <a href="https://twitter.com/UFCFightPass?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@UFCFightPass</a> at <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/UFCLondon?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#UFCLondon</a>! <a href="https://t.co/C0snfTL6iz">pic.twitter.com/C0snfTL6iz</a></p>— UFC (@ufc) <a href="https://twitter.com/ufc/status/974697469777883136?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">March 16, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
And just like that, Werdum's title hopes are pretty much dead for a while.
That HW Russian contender looked good. |
Does UFC even do freebies on Fox Sports anymore?
Cant even remember the last card I watched |

If you've been waiting for a decent card to buy, UFC 223 will be the one.

Texas strikes again with their insanely low marijuana threshold. Niko Price, Curtis Blaydes, and Abel Trujillo all tested positive in Texas, are suspended 90 days, and wins by Price and Blaydes were overturned to No Contest.
USADA told the media that they are not suspending any of them because they all tested below their threshold. |
2.5 weeks until a fantastic UFC PPV, as for this weekend there's a lot crammed into Saturday on Fightpass
Friday nothing Saturday 1pm - (Fightpass) - Cage Warriors 92 This is a full card of 13 fights at London's O2 arena, so this should go about 6 hours or so. Judging by Tapology rankings, this is a very good card by local promotion standards, almost every fight has one or both fighters regionally ranked top 25 in the UK. This promotion is basically the UFC's European feeder B-league so there are legit prospects here. 7pm - (Fightpass) - Invicta FC 28 Right after Cage Warriors winds down this will be starting up, there might be 4 or 5 legit prospects the UFC is interested in (as well as a couple demoted fighters that they probably are not), especially in the main event title fight since they badly need good strawweights. The fights that really matter won't start until about 9 or 10pm though, the first few fights are pretty much debut vs debut or 1-0 vs 1-0 entry level garbage. |
If that summary doesn't get you excited for Invicta on Saturday, how about a special appearance by Elias Theodorou as their "Ring Boy"? Huh? Eh? Not so much? Didn't think so. He's a funny dude on twitter though, I wish him the best in his next fight.

The UFC is moving on from DJ vs. TJ, for now. Mighty Mouse is hurt and rehabbing a shoulder injury, and the UFC doesn't think he'll be back in time for the big July card so they are going to make TJ defend his BW belt against someone else.

Putting this up now because Alaska has another Wednesday card, but there's not much going on this week.
Wednesday 11pm - (Fightpass) - AFC 138 This card is utter garbage, even by AFC standards. We've got a lot of pro debuts, guys with losing records fighting other guys with losing records, and the main event is some dude from Oklahoma vs some fat guy from Alaska. Saturday 8pm - (Fightpass) - Glory 52 Don't like kickboxing? Too bad, we have no MMA this weekend. |

Khabib and Tony Ferguson had a hilarious shittalk session on a conference call. The call is an hour long, but they have the funniest parts transcribed here
https://www.mmafighting.com/2018/3/2...onference-call |
Question, seeing as there are all sorts of reports that Fox is telling the UFC to shove it for their TV asking price and is supposedly going to replace them with the WWE...where will the UFC go since their asking price is pretty outrageous.

All that said, the Fertitta brothers look like geniuses now. They had a lot of experience with the dark days before TUF, and amongst all the highs and huge PPV successes, they probably also remember bad years and that the revenue can and will take a dip.
So they built up new stars, prettied up the product with Reebok, got USADA testing, made it look like a new huge sport on the rise, sold it, and got the **** out. It is clear now that WME massively overvalued the UFC, and are now experiencing the drop that the UFC always seems to go through every few years. Wouldn't it be hilarious if a few years from now the UFC has a couple more tough years, Conor is gone, no new stars, etc and WME sells the UFC back to the Fertittas for a fraction of what they paid? Then they could go back to work building it up again for the next buyer. |
Tony Ferguson is hurt and out of the LW title fight. He's probably also going to be stripped of the LW interim belt because Max Holloway will fight Khabib on only 6 days notice for the real title. (Dana still wants to strip Conor, obviously)
This is not an April Fool's joke. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">I'm told Holloway is still in Hawaii, UFC making flight arrangements being made now. If Holloway wins, he would be champion of both 145 and 155. That seems rather.... unlikely against Khabib with no fight camp.

Well, we finally made it. After a long drought where we had European kickboxing or Alaskan smokers Wednesday on fightpass, or putrid unwatchable cards in the middle of the day on FS1 (or more recently, no UFC at all), UFC 223 is this weekend.
I'm normally not this hyped about what honestly is just a pretty good PPV in normal times, but it has been a very long time since we had a card this good on paper (barring injury or weight cut disasters), and looking ahead it'll be a while before we have another good PPV. Friday 6pm - (Fightpass) - Titan FC 49 Judging by tapology rankings, this is very good by B-level promotion standards, which probably shouldn't be surprising since Titan is arguably the best of the 2nd-tier promotions. Oh, but Bellator has something going on, lets take a look at that... 7pm - (Paramount) - Bellator 196, Henderson vs. Huerta Yuck. This card is ****ing terrible by Bellator standards. Its on tape delay so all the fights will be spoiled on twitter before this starts. Its got Benson Henderson at the top, and at this point it looks like they are trying to salvage what is now clearly a bad free agent signing by just throwing some random dude at him. Looking at the rest of the card, judging by tapology rankings this is miserable, many local promotions have better cards than this, including Titan FC. So if you have Fightpass, go watch that. If you don't.... then maybe watch baseball I guess? Or catch up on your DVR'd shows that you promised you'd watch one day, well I think that day may have arrived. Saturday 7pm TV - (5:15pm Fightpass/7pm FS1/9pm PPV) - UFC 223, Khabib vs. Holloway Hell yeah. Every fight on the main card is good or at least interesting if you think Holloway has no chance. The prelims have 2 compelling fights important to their divisions, and the early prelim even has a couple fun fights out of 4 scheduled. This is a very good PPV by UFC standards, which perhaps looks even better than it is considering we're in the middle of a tough stretch where the UFC seems to be holding everything back for a July blowout. After this weekend, the rest of the spring and early summer will be at least a little bit less miserable as the UFC changes strategy from "lol, we're not competing against the super bowl or the NCAA tournament, we'll show nothing worth a damn" to "we're holding back the good stuff for July, but eh, for now we'll start throwing one or two good fights at our fans every card until July". |
per ESPN, the UFC has scheduled a rematch between BW champion TJ Dillashaw and the #1 contender Cody Garbrandt for UFC 227 August 4th in LA.
So, that obviously means TJ vs. DJ wont happen this year, if ever. |

yeah, this isn't a surprise. I'm not sure where the "owe a favor balance" is, and if the UFC owes the WWE, or (probably) if this is just a one-shot thing as payback for letting Rousey go.
The UFC wont be able to waive the 6-month wait this time though, so maybe they plan to use him for their big December card. Lesnar will have to enter the USADA testing pool for 6 months before he can fight. <blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">According to multiple sources, this isn’t promoter talk from White. UFC is confident Lesnar will be back after his WWE duties are wrapped up on Sunday. A deal is in place. Key now is to finalize it. <a href="https://t.co/ttaxduf15J">https://t.co/ttaxduf15J</a></p>— Ariel Helwani (@arielhelwani) <a href="https://twitter.com/arielhelwani/status/981712620544765953?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">April 5, 2018</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script> |
A lot of people on the internet are saying that Brock Lesnar is still suspended since he retired without serving it out and he'd have to serve out his 1 year suspension if he unretires. This is true, but they are missing a key detail. Someone on Lesnar's team was smart enough to have this all planned out so that he'd be able to come back in 6 months if he ever wanted to.
According to UFC/USADA rules, your suspension gets frozen when you retire, but he had already served out 7 months of it and had only 5 months to go when he retired. This was by design, he intentionally waited and allowed himself to remain in the USADA testing pool as a suspended fighter until he got under 6 months, then he retired to get rid of the hassle of random testing back when he wasn't sure if he'd fight again but wanted to leave open the option. There was no point to fully serving it out because he was going to be sidelined for a mandatory 6 month waiting period anyway. So yeah, he'll serve out the last 5 months of his suspension at the same time that he's doing the mandatory 6 month wait while being tested. |
Conor McGregor lost his shit at the Barclays center in New York just now. Threw bike racks and barricades at a bus carrying fighters, Michael Chiesa's face got cut, and the NYPD are probably arresting his dumb ass. Few details right now.
As it was unfolding it went from "oh, I guess they are hyping a future fight with backstage drama or something" to "wait no, he's just simply committing crimes now" in less than 10 seconds. |

Artem Lobov is now off the card because he was part of the crew that stormed Barclays with Conor. Chiesa's status is still unknown, but Dana said his face got cut up by glass. Rose Namajunas was nearly hit by thrown objects and was upset, Dana White went straight to her hotel room after a quick interview to talk to her and that fight is still on. |
....aaaaaand video proof that Conor McGregor was the guy who injured Chiesa. He probably didn't intend to get him, but Conor's the one who smashed the window in. Chiesa's gonna get some of that Mayweather cash.
