How good is Beckham, anyway? He has to be stronger at the plate then anything we have currently, but how is his defense?

He's really inconsistent at the plate. Hitting .302 this year, but only hit .234 and .230 the previous two years. A .250 career hitter with a .314 OBP. Has some power (14 HR per 162 games in his career). I could be wrong, but I think he's known for playing very good defense.

Exactly. Sounds like a Royal already.

This has nothing to do with the Royals, but Peavy has been scratched for the Sox tonight.

Career: .269/.328/.371 and .700 OPS and 15 HR's! - he's basically Chris Getz with slightly more pop. YAY!

Sounds to me like David Glass is putting a cap on spending this season, if we actually acquire Getz's brother.

Hey, never mind that Walmart said he'd spend what was needed if we were "in contention."

Looking at R. Weeks numbers: he's looks to be a free-swinging slugger with higher SLG than other 2Bs mentioned. I've noticed his WAR went negative when he strated making $10 million a season. Does salary factor into WAR?

a 31 year old AAAA guy, but we'll likely trade a legitimate prospect for him and he'll be our starting 2nd baseman even though we have like 10 AAAA infielders in the system already.

Cardinals - Kolten Wong, Memphis: The former University of Hawaii star arrived as the 22nd overall pick in the 2011 draft, then hit .335 at Quad Cities. He hit .287 last season at Springfield after fading late. He is trying to avoid that his summer. “I think it was more mental, just understanding that this is a long season and you play seven months out of the year,” Wong told the Memphis Commercial Appeal earlier this season. “It’s a lot longer than I did in college. Once you understand that and you go through a whole year, you kind of know what it’s going to take.”

He is ready for the big leagues right now. His six-game hitting streak pushed his season average to .298 at the Triple-A level. Wong offers gap power (19 doubles, eight triples, eight homers) and some base path speed (17 stolen bases in 18 tries). Wong could become No. 2 or No. 7 hitter in the National League and play a long, long time.

If they don't then maybe we can pick him up without actually "selling" this season

The Royals Tuesday said Lorenzo Cain needed an extra day of workouts to rehab his slightly pulled groin muscle and expect him to be in the lineup Wednesday.

The Royals Wednesday said Lorenzo Cain is very close to returning and they expect him to be in the lineup Thursday.

The Royals Thursday said they are holding Lorenzo Cain out one more day just as a precaution and expect him to be in the starting lineup Friday.

The Royals Friday said that because Jarrod Dyson is playing so well, they want to give Lorenzo Cain one more day of rest for his very slightly tweaked, hardly anything to talk about, groin muscle.

No clue, but it was supposed to be plus/above average.

He was an average, sure-handed SS prospect with limited range. Those types usually make pretty good 2Bmen.

Dutton's latest goes through our options at 2B in his latest article. He says White Sox are asking a lot, as Beckham is young, controllable beyond this season and has been their best player. Wha? He's hitting .302. Yipee. His Babip is an unsustainable .340. Beyond that, his OPS this season is .730, which is with that inflated BA. His OPS the last two years was .668 and .633. Why would we want to give up anything valuable for this guy? Oh yeah, he has 2 home runs this season.

Dutton also references Rickie Weeks' batting average when evaluating his performance. I thought Dutton was smarter than that?

DeezNutz 07-30-2013 05:07 PM

He's not. In fact, he starts getting pretty testy when pushed with new school, statistical, "magic," which he understands only slightly better than DM.

I agree actually. Duffy is a unique talent. Left, throws upper 90s when he wants to. Good stuff. BUT, the guy pitched 3/4 of a season and had a 5.64 ERA. And as you said, who knows if his mind is in it or if he has the control. If you put a gun to my head if I had to pick Ventura or Duffy it would be really, really close. I'd go back and forth depending on the day.

From mlb.com trade buzz:

Howie Kendrick and Erick Aybar appear to be the most likely to be traded, given how solid they’ve been on both sides of the field and the team-friendly extensions they signed last year. The Royals — with Chris Getz, Elliot Johnson and Miguel Tejada — are looking for a second baseman with offense and would be willing to include veteran starter Bruce Chen or Luke Hochevar, who’s been effective out of the bullpen but hasn’t started all year, in a deal. They also have two top guys in the Minors in Danny Duffy and Yordano Ventura, but Royals reporter Dick Kaegel doesn’t believe they’ll be included in a deal.

Colon would most likely be worse than Chris Getz, both offensively and defensively. He could possibly be that bad. But I don't even care, cuz you never know. We know Chris Getz sucks. Let anybody with a pulse give it a shot at 2b
