They overpaid to be not terrible at QB. Could have paid less for cheaper placeholders.

Meh. We went from the literal worst team in the league to the playoffs in the first year of Reid/Smith. I know it doesn't appeal to anyone here, but the team needed to appeal to the crowd that just wanted to see a competent football team again. Shit was ****ing dire the last 2 or so years of the Pioli era.

Dude, good luck finding a QB that will suit up and be healthy for almost five years. Seriously. It's like you all forgot about the Haurd, Thigpen, Croyel, Brady Quinn, Orton, Cassel shit show years.

Tell me who was available in 2013 that could have provided equivalent play and been a steady placeholder until we found Mahomes.

What an awful take. It couldn’t have worked out any better for us and to chalk it up as getting “lucky” when we aggressively made a move to go get our guy is beyond ****ing reeruned.

You have ZERO appreciation for the going rate for QBs.

Chiefs paid Smith 67 million, about 13.5 million a year.

A lot of money sure, but not for a QB that is going to start pretty much every game for five seasons.

From 2014-2016 we paid starter's money for a QB who delivered backup QB play.

He was vastly, vastly overpaid those three seasons.

That is the appreciation I have for Alex Smith vs "the going rate."

Yeah, we have not done shit in the playoffs, got it. That does not equal a over paid QB. In fact Alex has been decent in play off games.

You know, both things can be true. He can be not really responsible for getting us to the playoffs, not really responsible for the losses and still be slightly underpaid, which he was.
