Can't say I have done that. But yeah Marcellus... Rice is just a kid that was doing a little bit of speeding, right!?!
Boys will be boys... AMIRITE?!?!?!

You haven't done anything remotely stupid though right. Or just maybe you never got caught doing really dumb shit is my guess. In your mind being a moron in BFE Kansas is perfectly acceptable.

And no matter how many times you use the term "Supercar" it doesn't make it worse than if he was in a Honda Civic. You never acted a fool in a "supercar" because you never had one and never will but if you did when you were 22 you would have been a moron I am certain of it because well.....

What's wild is you can see what Rice and his buddies did every single weekend in every major city and in probably almost every medium sized city in the US. There are videos all over twitter of idiots doing worse on the regular.

Its epically stupid for sure especially considering who Rice is and what he is risking career wise, but its not remotely close to being "rare".

Sorry if I am having a hard time getting motivated to find my pitchfork and torch and head to the big rally over this knowing what actually happened vs what "could" have happened.

One dude doesn't want to acknowledge the difference in how fast a super car can accelerate vs a honda (anything but NSX) and the other wants to equate cutting off someone by mistake to going 120 in a 70 in a crowded area.

Reckless is reckless… you could have caused a crash by cutting someone off by possibly injuring or killing them.

So yes, you have endangered others with your driving.

The bolded doesn't matter. Doing 120 in a GMC Sierra is probably more dangerous than in a scary "super car."

You have seriously never driven over 100 mph on a highway in your life? Do you mean to tell me that there hasn't ever been a time that you were excited to get to some cross-town goat pussy that you decided to ignore the speed limit? I don't believe you.

Completely ****ing irrelevant to the argument bud. Nobody gets penalized harder for crashing a "supercar" than they do a Civic.

But one could argue the "Supercar" is better equipped to handle being driven that way......

Have you ever driven one? Do you have even the vaguest idea of how quickly they build up speed? How quickly and easily it is to lose control of one?

First... a GMC Sierra can't even hit 120. To get to it's top speed from 70 would take about a 2/3 mile run up going flat out for a GMC Sierra v8 to reach 108. The Urus will do 70 to 120 in about 2.5 seconds.

Second... it seems you think I am using the term Supercar as a scare tactic like people call the AR an "Assault Weapon". I'm not. I'm using the term, correctly, to describe the intense speed the car is capable of in short spaces.

If have absolutely gone over 100. Either on a race track (my favorite time on the track was with the 458 Italia) or on a highway with no one in front of me. My brother nearly died in a car accident. Wife died in a car accident.

No one is suggesting he should be penalized for crashing a supercar. I am, though, pointing out that the car he was driving will go from 70 to 120 in 2.5 seconds. Name a Honda, outside the NSX, capable of that.

I'm using those numbers for a reason. 70 is the speed limit on that stretch of road and 120 is the speed he was going.

Flow of traffic (including if they are speeding) is the most I will speed. Last speeding ticket I got was 2 years ago and it was, essentially, a speed trap going into a small town. Got me doing 55 in a 45.

L.A metro. has stretches of 75mph where millions of cars go 85 without punishment and 95 routinely.

It's fast and dangerous but not so uncommon.

Anyone who lives in the metroplex can verify this: It's not uncommon at all to see cars on I-35, 635, 75, etc. going 90-100 mph. When it isn't rush hour, you generally feel like a rolling barricade if you aren't going at least 10 mph over the speed limit.

Speed isn't the major issue in this case.

Just so you know, NOBODY here in Texas drives the speed limit on a freeway. 85 is probably the common speed. And even when going 85, someone will always come up and blow right by like you were doing 45 or something. I know 120 is far from that, but I'm just saying. The last time I went to KC I was baffled by how almost everyone drove the speed limit.

I have driven a Maserati MC20 on a track (The company I work for has ties to Maserati). A car like that is much more maneuvarable and easy to control at those speeds than anything your average Joe is driving on the highway.

You are absolutely using the term "supercar" as a scare tactic. There is literally no other reason to even bring up the term in this conversation. It has zero to do with what happened and will have zero to do with any punishment Rice receives.

Sorry about your wife. I can see how losing someone like that could definitely skew your view in regards to reckless driving and accidents.

Driving fast and getting in a wreck sucks, but it happens. Crashing your car, grabbing your duffle bag full of assault rifles, forgetting your weed, and just walking away like nothing happened is the bigger problem.

Allegedly

Man, the things I've ALMOST done.

What do you think the highway would look like if everyone acted in a way that led to there being a 5% chance of an accident while driving?

You’ll find there are studies that estimate that for every 10k miles you drive your chances of being in a car accident are around 3%.

So you think a 1 in 20 chance seems like good odds that you’d sign up for? We should be okay with driving conditions created that are more in line with the risks you’d face driving 15k miles?

The above is admittedly a super crude way to look about it, but yeah, 5% chance seems really high and one that I wouldn’t sign up for. And neither would you I’m sure.

Other than... I'm not. Ok though... what if I stop saying super car and instead say the much longer yet ultimately saying the same thing...

"he was driving a car that was capable of doing 70 to 120 MPH in 2.5 seconds".

Would me taking out that one word make it better for you. Because I will. Here ya go.

----

I haven't done 120 in a 70, in a supercar car that was capable of doing 70 to 120 MPH in 2.5 seconds , on a crowded highway causing me to make "multiple aggressive maneuvers to get through traffic.”, in the middle of the city, then fled the scene of the accident,.

Can't say I have done that. But yeah Marcellus... Rice is just a kid that was doing a little bit of speeding, right!?! Boys will be boys... AMIRITE?!?!?!

--

Lets pay attention to the important aspects of this situation which is my use of the word Supercar and not him doing 120 in a 70, wrecking, making multiple aggressive maneuvers to get through traffic, and fleeing the scene of an accident.

Yup... my use of the word Supercar to describe the abilities of the car is the real issue here.

I don't say supercar but I say all time that I'm not responsible enough for a Hemi.

Unfortunately, wouldn’t be a first.

But seriously, if someone has a 1 in 20 chance of causing death or serious bodily harm to you or a family member because they were, for instance, in this hypothetical driving over 100…

I mean you want to drag race on a presumably empty road…

But leave the rest of us out of it. If it was me making the laws and or jury.

Chief Pagan 04-16-2024 03:18 PM

Driving while elderly is a serious issue. At some point, they need to not drive at night and not drive on the interstate. Maybe the corner grocery store is unlikely to injure anyone and at some point, hopefully someone takes their license away.
But the fact there are other injuries and fatalities doesn’t justify driving 100+ and weaving through traffic.

Driverless cars can’t come too soon

Not that I’m optimistic.

It's not just speed, it has more control and maneuverability too. It's actually much safer.

Some of them can actually time travel if you reach 88mph.

Not as much work as it sounds.

Look guys, I don’t care if a player does stupid shit. I’ve looked past lots of shit as long as the guys helps us win games. I will root for rashee just as much as I did before this.

But cmon now. You can’t just casually dismiss that this was reckless shit that most of us would do. I drive fast on the highway. I’m guessing most of us have not crossed 100 on the highway let alone racing at that speed. Let alone hit and ran. And because he hit and ran we can only assume he was sober. Maybe some of us have done this and we knew that each single one of those would land us in deep deep shit.

I hope he gets off light but this was another level of stupid that I’m not going to even begin to justify

That's the thing... Almost no one, if anyone on here is dismissing his stupidity. Janx wants him justly punished, most of us think being punished economically through lawyer costs, fines, victim restitution, future insurance rates, and game checks with 2-4 game suspension based on previous NFL players similar actions is warranted and just. No one is expecting him to go unpunished by the legal, civil or NFL entities. However, some like Janx see that as dismissing his behavior and we should hate him and hope he gets thrown in jail and suspended the 8 or more games because he COULD HAVE killed somebody.

I've stated in both threads that I do not believe he should be thrown in jail. I stated that the police should process him like they would any other person that did this which includes the opportunity to post bail. I don't believe he should get prison time for this at all.

I never called for 8 games. Myself, I think he gets 4 and it gets talked down to 2. No, not because he could have killed someone but because he was reckless, caused an accident, and fled the scene of an accident.

Mother ****ers just gotta go out of their way to create positions that don't exist so they can have something to be angry at.

When everyone is pointing out your laughably absurd takes… maybe you should have some self-awareness. LMAO

I'm sorry... I can't respond to anything from you until I get my quote where I state that I cannot openly root for Rice.

ROFL

What you posted did not say that. You were, again, making up a position for me then being mad at it.

I caught the same bullshit from Braves fans for saying McCann and Morton can both suck unwashed cock and all they did was cheat in baseball. Takes like yours is how we wind up with politicians holding office for life despite the shady underhanded bullshit they pull. Excuses and swerves because they are on "your team".

GFY

And that is fine. I haven’t read any of Janxs stuff but I certainly want him to get away with lightest punishment possible, personally. This is more the casual shrugging this off as if any one of us could have done it because we all made immature mistakes or everybody speeds. It comes off as excuses. I despise his behavior, I just choose to not care because I just want to win football games. This was egregiously reckless behavior. No most of us have not and if we’re being real, most of us non celebs would get the long dick of the law if it happened to us.

None of that says I’m not going to root for the guy. You even asked me how my not tolerating stupidity would look like… and got a response.

I, for one, scheduled myself light today because I have a goat about to give birth and I’m checking on her pretty often as this is her first time doing this.
