2 dunks missed by Ochai this game now.

Also two games this season where they've been completely outplayed by a non-tournament team. The first one ended in a loss.

Bill's probably reminding them of that little fact right now. Time to get frickin' serious. Remember where they're playing.

Up 9. Would prefer being up by 25 with the streaky nature of this game.

KC_Connection 12-18-2021 08:43 PM

Absolutely pathetic stuff.

KC_Connection 12-18-2021 08:50 PM

The Dayton loss was the worst loss quality wise since 2012 TCU, but this would be even worse. A true home game at AFH? Are you kidding me?

Reminds of too many losses to teams we never should've lost to.

Ochai is so bad defensively. The fact that he's getting talked up as a POY candidate suggests people aren't looking at anything but his scoring totals.

True...
That said, I think we'll get out of this one now, with 26 seconds left.
Hope I didn't jinx us.

He really was a pretty inefficient scorer last year. He just got to shoot at the end of shot clocks since he was the only one who could do it

He had a 102.5 ORtg last year compared to 92.2 ORtg this year. 51 TS% last year compared to 38 TS% this year. Shot 32 percent from three compared to 7 percent this year (1 for 15).

He’s basically gone from being an average shooter/scorer to being absolutely horrific offensively this season.

BWillie 12-18-2021 10:55 PM

Mitch looked pretty solid in the 1st half. Its too bad Dave has regressed so much that Lightfoot may actually be better.

He is the weakest big man I've ever seen in my life. Biggest dude on the floor and gets owned regularly by guys 2 inches shorter and 50 lbs. lighter. They need to put him on one of those Marvel actor regiments to put on some muscle.

I'm nominating him for this thread's pile on the crap player. He deserves it so far....

RaidersOftheCellar 12-19-2021 09:48 AM

Everyone wants to see McCormack's minutes decrease, but, like it or not, he's a very important piece. Self is going to give him every opportunity because he knows that he needs him, even defensively. And he will likely turn it around eventually, like last year.

HC_Chief 12-19-2021 10:15 AM

McCormack's issues are mental, not physical. He does not have an aggressive mind set. It is obvious. A guy that big should want to out-physical defenders in the paint and dunk EVERYTHING. Instead, he fades and tries to hit jump shots 5 to 6 ft from the basket. Soft.

That's the perplexing thing. He did this SAME SHIT last year and then turned it on.

It's like bizzaro world. Most dudes feast on shit teams and then wither against better opponents. It's super weird.

I mean, it's possible he doesn't turn it on and last year was an aberration. I hope not, but it's possible.

KC_Connection 12-19-2021 12:45 PM

He's soft (which isn't going to change at this point) and he's got a really bad feel/mind for the game (which is also not changing either). The team does in fact need him, though, but not for scoring.

Pablo 12-19-2021 01:05 PM

Looks like they trailed 3 times all game and never by more than one possession, but if you read this thread it was the worst effort ever by KU basketball and should never be spoken of again.

After seeing posts Thursday night about how the Chiefs are screwed at QB for years, I was waiting to read the fire Bill Self posts.

But it did change though. He was far better in conference play than he was early. And it was all toughness/effort from my seat.

That's true, but that change wasn't permanent. He needs to be this team's Landen Lucas instead of whatever he's trying to be right now.

Lucas is why I'll never discount Self's ability to get major mental growth from his bigs, Udoka as well, actually.

RustShack 12-19-2021 05:31 PM

I can’t wait to see how we stack up against Baylor(on ESPNU lol) Jan 1. And obviously my return trip to the Field House Jan 11. I’m still a little hesitant on expectations, but damn our defense should keep us in any game.

I also still can’t believe I bought Iowa State at Kansas tickets for ONLY $25 on Black Friday. I thought I got a deal a few years ago when I got them on sale for $84 my first trip there lol

Big12 is the best basketball conference right now, and it’s about to be better in a few years.

Will not be surprised if I catch it at the job, though. Was around 140 people today, some were coughing, and 2 coworkers went home.

Does CU really have COVID issues or is this another Tarleton State situation. For those who may not remember lest season Tarleton State canceled a game with KU supposedly b/c of COVID but then played Kentucky 2 days after they were scheduled to play KU. (Me thinks KY offered a bigger guaranteed check.)

Pablo 12-21-2021 08:09 PM

No, but IMO the timing is a little suspicious. I did check their record to see if a L might give CU bubble "issues" come March with a certain cmte.

WTF are you talking about? A school just made up some game against Kentucky mid-season for a larger payment?

They were scheduled to play Baylor two days later and that game was cancelled, too.

At that time I thought it odd that the school had to cancel its game w/KU 48 hrs before it was to take place but could play another school 2 days after KU was scheduled to play them. (At that time, before vaccines, COVID was considered to be a 10-14 "thing" as far as being contagious.)

It doesn't really seem possible that the NCAA could cancel 2 tournaments in 3 years. That's just too much money to give up.
