That being said, the show runners have earned the rope to hang themselves with it so I’m not going to get too worked up at the moment. |

But I'm in until they give me a reason to not. |
But how known is he really?
We saw him much more as a kid than as an adult... Who really was that character in ep 5 and 6? (seriously, we're talking all this in spoiler tags, but is there anybody in this thread at this point who doesn't know who we're talking about) |

Again, it's a fair point, it's just disappointing that we have to continue to go back to those characters. I was excited to go a different direction, which I guess technically they could still do, but IMO it is unlikely to be a better story with him than without him. Rogue 1 was awesome, because I knew the universe, hell, I knew the ending but I didn't know any of the major players until the last 5 minutes save Tarkin I guess. I just wanted something different. But as I've said all along, they've earned the rope to hang themselves. We'll see what they do with it. |

https://screenrant.com/star-wars-man...tion-answered/ Maybe this is a specific trait for foundlings? True Mandalorians can remove their helmets in public, but foundlings have a more strict set of rules? It seems there are few true Mandalorians left. Or maybe he was adopted by a clan with more strict rules? Hopefully we'll learn more about that this season as they introduce the backstory of new characters like Sabine. If Sasha Banks is Sabine, apparently she is seen in the trailer sans helmet, which to me implies different rules. |
Just saw the new episode. Stoked about this season.

Of course it's a clan thing. That's not the question. He question is what is the sect, and why are they like that...
|
I think a lot of these questions will be answered, this season or next. At some point I think we'll either see flashbacks to Din Djarin's training as a foundling, or maybe the introduction of a mentor figure (Michael Biehn?).
|
Clay is slacking off. The Chiefs just posted the “Patdolarian”. This is the way.
|
With the possible Boba Fett reveal, hopefully they make the idea of him being alive ambiguous and that's the only time in the series we see the Fett silhouette and leave it as a mystery.
|
What’s the etiquette about spoiling in this thread? How long after an episode is released before we can talk about it in here without spoilers?

The Mandalorian’ Eyes Production Start As Spinoff, Casting & Boba Fett Buzz Heats Up Disney+’s signature original series, The Mandalorian, just returned for its second season, which had wrapped production just before the pandemic hit in March. While not officially greenlit, a third season of the hit Star Wars series has been in pre-production for months, with creator, director and executive producer Jon Favreau publicly stating that he hoped to start filming by end of 2020. That may be the case, with some sources indicating that production would be starting as soon as next week (or in late November/early December), while others point to spring or even fall 2021. The confusion stems from the level of secrecy in the Lucasfilm camp. But persistent chatter could explain the discrepancy — that another Mandalorian-related project/spinoff, I hear possibly a Boba Fett miniseries, would film first, starting next week or later this month, with The Mandalorian Season 3 production coming after that. Season 3 of The Mandalorian was recently listed in Production Weekly with the working title Buccaneer, sparking a guessing game among fans what that moniker may entail. Per usual, Lucasfilm and Disney+ are keeping mum on details about the new season, including casting. Sophie Thatcher (When the Street Lights Go On, Chicago Med) is being rumored to be joining The Mandalorian franchise. Nobody is commenting, and there is conflicting information whether she will be part of The Mandalorian‘s upcoming third season or an offshoot series (or both). In February, then-Disney CEO Bob Iger hinted at the company’s plans to expand The Mandalorian franchise with spinoff series, teasing “the possibility of infusing (the mothership series) with more characters and taking those characters in their own direction in terms of series.” There is speculation that such series is in the works and about to start filming, though it is unclear what Mandalorian character(s) would be spun off and whether Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) is one of them. A recent online report pointed to a potential offshoot featuring Cara Dune, played by Gina Carano, and the Star Wars Rebels character Bo-Katan Kryze (Katee Sackhoff, who has been rumored to appear The Mandalorian‘s second season.) Such a project does not appear to be real, at least for now. Adding to the confusion is the fact that Disney+ is developing a female-centered Star Wars series, written and showrun by Leslye Headland, believed to be a female-driven action thriller with martial arts elements and set in an alternate timeline from the usual Star Wars universe. The rumored spinoff is said to be separate from this Star Wars project but the situation is fluid. The Mandalorian is a space Western, which begins five years after the events of Return of the Jedi and stars Pedro Pascal as the title character, a lone bounty hunter who is hired to retrieve “The Child” (aka Baby Yoda). |

I don't think they have time for the meandering storytelling from season one now that stakes have been introduced. Episode three needs to move the plot forward significantly.

Just checking in as a fan of the original trilogy, and someone who hates pretty much everything else they've done. This series is great, IMO. I actually give a shit about the characters and I'm genuinely curious as to where this goes. You guys are WAY more into the lore than I am (and that's fine) but for a fan who just loves the originals and is hoping for a fun, character driven narrative, I'm pretty happy with everything so far. I hope it doesn't jump the shark with too many call backs, and so far it's been just enough. I don't feel like spoilering a bunch of comments, so I'll leave it there. Suffice it to say, I'm pleasantly surprised at how great this thing is and I'm looking forward to more. I'm absolutely shocked at that.

I have always been a fan of westerns and old western TV series. The Mandalorian to me is basically Have Gun Will Travel or Tales of the Wells Fargo. Different shows each week with new things and characters. Maybe it has no connection to past movies cartoons or books just adventures of this Mandalorian. |
I've liked it so far.
I had a major geek moment when the X-Wings pulled up. The sound.....oh god. When they switched to attack mode, YES! Mando is so badass. He is respected by everyone, even sand people. So cool. This series is similar to general science fiction in that they have a bunch of "stand alone" episodes. Farscape, Star Trek, BSG, etc. come to mind. You shouldn't have every episode directly pushing the main story along or it will become a one rail series. |

This felt like a step back from the season premier, but I'm not dismayed with it. Yet. |

Cant really disagree with anything said from any side.
I’ll reserve judgement until I see where it all ends up. I share most of Danes concerns, but I think there is an argument to be made that it can’t all be balls to walls. Big moments hit harder if they’re not stacked up.
Spoiler!
But like I said, they earned the rope to hang themselves. |

Jon Favreau is a good to great storyteller and since he wrote every screenplay for Season 2, I'd imagine we'll view these episodes differently after 16, 24 and/or 32 episodes have aired. Friday night's episode was certainly fun and scary enough but I think that most of us would like to see a continuation of where they left off in Season 1, which I assume he'll get to by no later than Episode 5 this season. |

NASA announced last week that the Milky Way galaxy may have as many as 300 million Earth-like planets yet in the Star Wars galaxy, everything revolves around a singular desert planet. "Expanded Universe" seems like a misnomer for anything beyond the original trilogy. |
Who cares. Tatooine is cool.

I bet it's cheaper to do scenes there, too. Just go to Nevada! I bet the cost of doing visual effects for a place like Coruscant or Nar Shadaa is prohibitive - I would like to see stuff like that, though. I quite enjoyed the opening of the first episode. |

All of the VFX shots we see are the same thing the actors and director see while shooting. It's Virtual Production. There's no "On Location" shooting. It's all done on a soundstate in Long Beach. |
Wow - well, I think that makes my point even more.
It has to be a lot less computer man hours to render desertscapes than a bustling city. Hell, they could get away with using existing footage for a lot of it. |
I know some have criticized it for this, but I don't care whatsoever about them moving the "story" forward quickly. TV has gotten too serialized for my liking over the past twenty years (especially these days with binge watching). There's nothing wrong with episodic television (this past week's was entertaining) and I'm glad this show is providing that in addition to the overarching narrative.

He's just a humble Mando, not the savior of the galaxy. He's not Iron Man, Thanos isn't coming through a portal. I'd rather see him just wrecking shit in Star Wars theme parks. That Krayt Dragon scene was one of the most perfect action sequences in the history of the franchise. The IMAX shots, my ****ing GOD. |
Quote:
As I mentioned earlier, the Filoni-produced Clone Wars and Rebels often had these types of episodes from time to time but IMO, these episodes shouldn't have appeared so early this season because not only will they lose viewers, that's already begun, as their numbers are down for Season 2 and are currently 50% less than The Boys on Amazon Prime's second season. |
