That movie is terribad. |
Quote:
And yes, it was terrible. I usually enjoy it when everybody shits on a movie, so I go in with low expectations. Usually that means I am surprised by how good it is, (see Star Trek Into the Darkness.) Knight & Day was so bad, I turned it off, even with super low expectations. Lego Movie was amazing, but I had just got done reading a scathing review of it, so YMMV. Pretty much take reviews as a grain of salt... except Fire Me Boy; That man knows his stuff. |

Thanks for the compliment. :) The Lego Movie was quite enjoyable. The wife and I watched on the flight to Hawaii. And Knight and Day was awful. |
I still want to see Lego Movie.

has anyone seen Bad Grandpa?
I think the Jackass movies are hilarious. I Know this one isn't as over the top as those, but I love the concept of the situations they put themselves into . |
That Awkward Moment was actually pretty good. I liked it.

Watched Conversations With Other Women last night.
Really awesome character-driven movie about two people hooking up at a wedding and discovering they met each other 20 years ago. Helena Bonham Carter and Aaron Eckhart sitting around talking and ****ing for 90 minutes but pretty good anyway. Also, Weatherman with Nick Cage was pretty amusing. |
Don Jon has 81% on Rotten Tomatoes. Awkward moment is at 22%. This is why I don't pay too much attention to RT.

I watched Would You Rather on HBO last night, it was a pretty original horror movie. I'm watching it and I'm going "Man that host looks awfully familiar." It turned out to be Jeffrey Combs from Re-Animator, I was like holy shit no wonder why that movie rocked. lol You guys should check it out, its disturbing as **** though.

A million ways to die in the west = A dumber live action Family Guy. Basically all the same jokes except in live action and in the wild west.

Obviously, anything he writes is going to have a Family Guy feel to it. I really like his brand. His acting was better than I expected. |

I have been trying to make myself watch classic movies that I've missed. I recently caught "Of Mice and Men" and thought it was pretty good.
However, I watched "The Deer Hunter" last weekend and was, ummm - underwhelmed. I know it won a shit ton of Oscars but I didn't care for it. It seemed badly in need of editing (the wedding scene was almost an hour long, with almost no dialog) and it seemed like most of the dialog was the characters shouting at each other. I found this review and have to agree. Quote:

I would suggest reading her review, found here http://books.google.com/books?id=tkS...20kael&f=false But I would defend the extended periods of simple observation, as in the extensive wedding scene. One thing I loved about 70s cinema was a willingness to simply drop us into a life or set of lives and find our way. Robert Altman perhaps did it most expertly in films such as Nashville |

I'm thinking it had more impact in the 70's. What she calls sweeping and majestic, I thought was heavy-handed and boring. |
Robocop was decent. Most likely better if you have never seen the original. The first half was good but didn't really care for the last half though. The part where they took apart his suit and showed how he was just a head and lungs was pretty ****ing cool though.

I was visiting my sister and ended up wandering through the movie section of Wal Mart, to find something for her to watch. I stumbled across Winter's Tale. I read the book back in the 80's and I was surprised that this movie even existed. I had never heard of it and it came out this year. I enjoyed it.
|
Has anyone ever seen 'Charley Varrick,' I'd never heard of it, but recently read a glowing 'overlooked classic' writeup of it.

Watched the "The Way Way Back" on Starz free preview this weekend. Great flick.
Sam Rockwell made the movie for me. |

I watched 2 Guns. It was far better than I anticipated. Strongly recommend.

I agree. Good pop corn flick.

Under the Skin.
Man, WTF did I watch? It was slow and really creepy, and you couldn't figure out WTF was going on most of the time. But there were some very well done scenes that had me glued. And very generous amounts of naked Scarlett Johansson... So weird it's hard to form an opinion, but it was entertaining... |
Have recently been cleaning off the DVR of movies built up during recent free preview weekends:
Ice Age: Continental Drift Pretty funny and definitely the best of the last few Ice Age movies. One annoying thing was that it was obviously originally in 3D and was full of the "comin' at ya" shots. Evil Dead (remake) Meh. Not scary and had none of the humor/schlock of the original. We're The Millers Moderately funny and Holy Shit Jennifer Aniston! Cloud Atlas Gorgeous movie and... wut? Arthur and the Invisibles I like animated movies and I like fantasy movies but this thing sucked major balls. SyFy level CGI, an annoying kid lead and Madonna hilariously miscast as a young feisty princess. A Monster in Paris Gorgeous animation that is incredibly detailed. The story was amusing and ok but the animation makes it worth seeing. |

I can't say I laughed at any point in the movie but it was solid sci-fi. MUCH better than oblivion... |

Has anyone seen Terry Gilliam's Zero Theorem?
Apparently it's never been released in the US. I can't even find a torrent. Apparently available on bluray soon. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Zero-Theorem.../dp/B00IRD8LLM |
Saw Edge of Tomorrow yesterday. Pretty good actually, probably best Cruise movie in a while. Surprised there isn't a thread about it, or maybe there is I just missed it.
Oh and Cloud Atlas may be many things, but hard to understand it's not. And on Deer Hunter, like BL said movies in the seventies did an amazing job of just letting the scene speak for itself. No special effects or wacky dialogue (not that these things are bad) but just pure life. Of course Deer Hunter is not going to be taken the same way today as it was back when it was released but my father was aVietnam vet and he said it's probably the best movie made around the subject. I wrote a paper in college about the sheer awesomeness of 70's cinema. Really, to me, it was the golden age. |
Not sure why I had so much trouble following Cloud Atlas.
I enjoy movies that require thought. Inception is one of my favorite movies, ever. |

I suppose Saving Private Ryan and Full Metal Jacket were mediocre. |
Just saw Edge of Tomorrow. It was decent. So many ppl are saying its unique and original, I dont really know why. Its a direct rip off of Source Code. And it uses many of the same principles of how you kill this supreme alien being as other sci fi movies. Though the lesser thought of Oblivion that Cruise was in to be much more original and intriguing.
|
That would be Edge of Tomorrow.

Watched The Sacrament....not too bad, disturbing and creepy in a lot of parts.
Gene Jones was awesome in the Jim Jones/David Koresh role, really played the role well. |

Just watched Olympus Has Fallen. Good stuff though I thought the whole access code thing was dumb on the President's part. He had the other people give the codes to save them, but the terrorists could have then tortured/killed them to try to get him to give up his code since he was so worried about their well being. In other words, they'd likely end up dead anyway since the terrorists saw he was "soft" for them.

I have a confession. I am really loving CinemaSins. All these movies where I kinda want to see them, but I know they are not good; CinemaSins is the perfect version of Cliff Notes. Perfect example: The Purge. I am glad I know what happens, but I am glad I did not waste 2 hours finding it out.

CinemaSins is amusing but I only watch them after I've seen the movie.
I also love How It Should Have Ended and Honest Movie Trailers. |

Watched Transcendence the other day. I thought it was a really good movie yet reviewers gave it 19% on rotten tomatoes. I really don't see why anyone would let that site influence them into watching a movie or not.
