I wonder if Clark is moving with haste on this d/t the fact that some of these players will make their decision to resign based on the coaching hire.

Peyton Manning DOES NOT.

Why do we assume age will catch up to these guys with these rules in today's NFL? It doesn't matter if they lose speed...as long as they can still win it and still THINK, that's all they need. Peyton already lost a little off his fastball and it doesn't even matter. For all we know, his neck may still be getting stronger and his arm strength may even come back all the way in time.

I truly believe Manning and Brady can play at an elite level into their 40s.

Sucks for us. I think it's blind homerism for anyone to expect us to have any sort of a shot at this division in the next 3 years. Same goes with Oakland and San Diego.

This division is on lockdown. Denver will win at least 36 games over the next 3 years. This isn't even a question.

And then he fell off a cliff the following season. Age will catch up.

Denver had no identity at the beginning of the season when they lost those games...games in which they fell behind HUGE early only for Peyton Manning to almost make two improbably, impressive comebacks against both Atlanta and Houston. Much like he did against San Diego.

and then what happened after they scored 5 straight and beat San Diego after being down 24? McCoy said "**** it", and scrapped his huddle offense he tried implementing and basically surrendered and gave Peyton the offense...and they won 11 straight.

Seriously. Go watch the first 5.5 games...Denver was running just as much out of a huddle as they were with the traditional Peyton Indy offense. After the San Diego comeback where Peyton played like God once they fell down 24 and totally scrapped the McCoy (who is laughable as a HC candidate) huddle offense...they became the Colts with a defense.

You really expected Peyton Manning, who missed a season and joined a new team, to be Peyton Manning right away on a brand new team with brand new personnel? They started 2-3. They lost all of those games at the beginning of the season.

Looking at that and making an argument about how they only beat shitty teams is ridiculous given the circumstances.

Everyone was like "oh just wait until they play Baltimore at Baltimore!" Yeah, that was a game for less than a quarter. Shit, they beat the living hell out of Baltimore worse than they did the Chiefs in week 17. At least we recovered that fumble and then get another stop to almost make it 7-6!.

Could I see them losing to New England in the AFCC game? Hell yeah. Would I bet on it? No.

THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING TO US THOUGH

Peyton now officially owns this division. He is not beatable over the course of 16 games. He is good for 12 wins on a season where the bounces equal out, 14 when they get a few bounces, and 11 when all the bounces go against him. That's just REALITY.

I'm sorry, it SUCKS for us...but the best we're going to do unless we have a Colts Andrew Luck MIRACLE year where we go +50 in the bounce department is fight for the #5 or #6 seed and maybe give our fans something to cheer about while we develop a franchise QB who is ready to take the division by the reigns in 3-5 years when Peyton hangs them up.

Maybe, if WE'RE REALLY lucky, Manning will win this year, next year and decide to pull an Elway and go out on top...but that's probably not going to happen.

In today's NFL where the QB doesn't take a lot of hits and football is HIS life...I can, unfortunately, see him playing until he is 42-43...which makes life for us MISERABLE.

We shall see who's who in the playoffs. I really don't think the Donkeys are as good as their record! But this is why we have the playoffs!

I realize I was the one that compared Favre but him and Peyton are totally different QB's...Favre was super overrated and pulled a rabbit out of his hate that first Vikings year. It was fascinating to watch.

BUT

watch Peyton Manning you casual fan you

and you'll realize he doesn't take hits...he'll (and smartly I will add) fetal up and move on to the next play

that's the smart move when you're a QB who can consistently pick up 3rd and longs...

Peyton taking hits hurts his team WAY more than him fetal'ing up...unlike Matt Cassel with the Chiefs

when you have Peyton Manning the last thing you want for him to do...ever...is to stand in there and extend a play and risk a Roethlisberger type injury...

The Franchise 01-02-2013 01:21 PM

If the Cardinals are smart they'll promote Horton to HC and keep their up and coming GM that's out interviewing right now.

do I think Denver wins it all? Yes. They are my #1 choice, New England #2. I think the "Super Bowl" will be the AFCC game.

MY POINT IS

Denver is going to have a home playoff game every year Manning is their QB.

what they do in that game, or following games, is a moot point to this discussion.

That home game, though, directly effects us, as Chiefs fans.

Does this make sense? I'm not debating how good they are this year or how good they will be now that they are the #1 seed...

The Cardinals. Arizona has the superior defense, plays indoors but needs a quality QB, a legit starting running back and at least three new offensive lineman.

The Chiefs need denfensive lineman, a true starting ILB next to DJ, a starting safety and a starting CB opposite Flowers. If the new staff switches to a 4-3, they'll be even further behind. On offense, the Chiefs need at least two QB's, help at receiver (which could be in really poor shape if Bowe departs), another tight end and quite possibly, a starting left tackle.

okay, sure. I just think that a team that really plays some fast defense neutralizes Manning and the rest of Denver's roster just doesn't match up to the depth of, say, a Seattle, Atlanta, or even Houston.

Maybe I'm wrong - they sure are peaking at the right time, and winning the games they needed to win at the time to win them (Nov & Dec) but I don't see Manning as having the Superman cape under his jersey like everyone else. That team is beatable - give the Chiefs a real QB, some real coaching, the other half of a secondary, and some offensive compliments to Bowe and JC...the Chiefs can certainly battle Den for supremacy in the division. Oak and SD are shit. Plus, we have the NFC East next year - no cakewalk. It will be hard for the Chiefs to have a winning record next year, no matter what, and Den will have a hard time duplicating their record this year, though they could probably win this division easily at 11-5 or 10-5 (much like KC in 2010) or even 9-7.

Point is...Chiefs will probably have a decent draft position in 2014 as well. It's possible, if everything goes right (Pioli is gone, Reid or Chip Kelly comes here, draft the right QB, good sound drafts and FA signings, etc.) the Chiefs can totally battle the Broncos for division supremecy in a year or two, much as theydid during Elway's prime in the 90's.

ROFL

now replace the 'give the Chiefs' with 'give the Raiders' or 'give the Chargers' and you're absolutely right!

If, by some miracle, we land a franchise QB, a GREAT coach, 2 solid secondary personnel, a few great compliments to Charles and Bowe...and a few other pieces that JUST fit!!!

Blaming Manning is silly.

So...Manning's defense threw that pick-6 to Tracy Porter??

Haven't you heard? We should forfeit every season until Manning retires. He's unstoppable.

Your argument just isn't meaty enough. Sorry.

and you're talking about an era where defense ruled and Elway had a career QB rating of 79.9.

I'm sorry, you're just wrong. There is a reason why Peyton Manning and Tom Brady haven't lost their divisions for close to, if not over a decade. (not counting the 11 win Cassel year in NE)

This isn't the Marty era...this isn't 'defense wins' era...

that argument is totally flawed; just 100%

I don't know how to tell this to you guys...I love your faith and your ability to hold on. I know I can enjoy a new coach and a new (Geno) QB...I think it'll be great.

But I'm also going to be realistic and realize we have no shot at this division for at least 3 years.

NONE

IT WON'T HAPPEN

Unless you guys hire Tonya Harding to take out Peyton Manning. Then we'll talk.

Come on Man! Guess it's not worth an argument. We will know in a couple of weeks

And without PM that defense isn't good, just barely servicable. You Put Matty C and Daboll on that and Denver gets the first pick even if the Chiefs forfeit every game this season.

I'm not pretending to know anything about Mike Lombardi other than I like his last name. Please tho inlighten me what would be wrong with him. He sounds like a smart guy from little I have heard from him on TV.

He doesn't seam to be a big ego kind of guy. I think he can be a GM most coaches can work with. I don't have a ****ing clue tho. So please why would he be a bad idea?
