8.5 of 10

Balls to the wall horror eye candy, I might even rate it higher had it not been opening night in a packed theater that serves alcohol.

I agree and will give it a 9/10 for you. Somehow they captured the essence of the original films and blended it perfectly with modern sound, gore and makeup effects. The cinematography was excellent! The young cast members did an impressive job and the mother was perfectly cast. Tension was consistent throughout, a testament to the script.

Saw it last night….good flick, agree with everything that’s been said so far. Lots of gore, lots of fun, and some nice tips of the cap to the original while still being original in this story.

Rumors are that the Exorcist Believer trailer is terrifying, but a screening of the movie went horribly - too long and not scary.

ToxSocks 05-23-2023 04:07 PM

Watched The Pope's Exorcist. The movie had potential but goddamn the writing sucked.

Not even the awesomeness of Russel Crowe could save this one. Crowe was his usual awesome self.

The writing/script was just....****ing stupid.

Glad you liked it!

Watched "knock at the cabin door" a few nights later, and really enjoyed that as well.

doesnt have a massive twist like some of M Night's movies, but very solid nonetheless.

The premise is what drew me in, and it didnt disappoint.

ThaVirus 05-30-2023 03:42 PM

****ing A, I hated Knock at the Cabin Door. Maybe my expectations were just off.

If you’re looking for horror, that one is not it, just FYI.

Yeah it’s not really horror….more suspense/thriller.

ToxSocks 05-31-2023 12:04 PM

Caught this movie called Tin and Tina on Netflix last night. Completely out of the blue, random pick.

Yeah, it's in spanish. Subtitle that bitch.

It's such an odd, yet interesting movie that i had to post it. It won't be for everyone.

If you like foreign horror that's more odd/creepy/disturbing rather than jump scares and gore, check this one out.

The movie was captivating for reasons i can't really explain.

In summary, a newly wed woman miscarries on her wedding day. The couple then goes and adopts two kids from a catholic orphanage.

The kids border between sweet and innocent and religiously psychotic. Movie does a great job of blurring that line so you're left guessing if these kids are psychopaths or just naive and zealously religious.

Despite some obvious plot holes, I thoroughly enjoyed The Black Phone

Thought it was stylized nicely and felt like something fresh in the genre

DJJasonp 06-07-2023 11:07 AM

Im not a Peele fanboy (I think his first film is good, but not nearly as good as the press make it out to be).

But Nope was god-awful. I understand the symbolism, and all that, but it was characters I didnt care about, and a "bad guy" I wasnt afraid of.

Basically a much more boring "jaws" in the sky.

Im a Peele fan. Also a fan of the actors he often uses.

I thought the movie was clever, engaging and full of easter eggs and foreshadowing. Very well shot.

But im into unorthodox movies. I find them refreshing.

I agree on the cinematography. I was a film major in college, so it’s not lost on me, by any means.

ThaVirus 06-24-2023 09:17 AM

I watched the new Evil Dead Rises. It was thoroughly enjoyable.

If you’re a fan of the franchise, you’ll likely enjoy it too. It was full of the typical shock gore and practical effects you’d come to expect from one of these movies.

Spoiler!

KCUnited 07-03-2023 04:13 PM

I too watched Evil Dead Rise recently and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There were some missed opportunities for sure, like zero titties shown when specifically portraying characters as a single mom and an alleged groupie, but I digress.

My initial thought was that it started strong then bogged during the family dynamic setup when I admit my ADHD was like lets just get to the killing shall we?

In retrospect though, that part was really really well done. It was like a nod to single (widowed) mom Lacille LaRusso moving her young son Daniel to a new town in Karate Kid except more current where one kid might be binary, one an aspiring DJ, and a little girl who could've been Drew Barrymore's doppelganger from ET. Anyway, they captured the down on their luck, broken family sticking together throwback vibe of the 80s which we all associate with Evil Dead.

The kids even took moms station wagon out for pizza, which was brilliant, and them dropping it causing it to slide all over the boxes was as horrific as anything else in the movie for someone with OCD.

Brilliantly done and great attention to detail that I didn't fully appreciate at the time.

ToxSocks 07-03-2023 04:31 PM

Just saw that the new Evil Dead is on HBO Max...or whatever it's called now.

Can't ****ing wait. I need a good two hours of people shutting the **** up first so i can lay down and watch it.

Them leaving the perfectly edible pizzas after the earthquake was actually the least believable part of the whole movie

3 whole ass boxes of pizza?

I’d of stiff armed my brother into Freddy Kruger himself to save that pizza as a kid

Its got Madsen from Succession in it

Definitely on the artsy side of the horror genre and runs a bit long but is definitely a unique and disturbing story

lcarus 08-19-2023 04:20 AM

Saw X is coming out soon. It has Tobin Bell and Shawnee Smith and supposedly takes place between the first and second movie. I used to be a fan of those movies. It was a fun tradition going to see the new Saw movie in theaters on Halloween. Even though they got worse just about each time.

This one looks interesting but it's just funny. How much shit did this guy make and do in the period of time between his cancer diagnosis and death lol. They're gonna stuff that time period with 40 movies.

I thought the made up location was genius

I think White Lotus nails the underlying awkward/creepiness for anyone thats ever done a resort vacation and Infinity Pool injects it full of bath salts

Watched "The Taking of Deborah Logan" last night. 2014 title, been seeing it around for years and finally gave it a watch last night.

Surprisingly entertaining. Creepy movie, and while it had some common horror movie tropes, it was unique enough in its own right. Would recommend.

If you're into foreign horror, I watched Impetigore last night

Tense and disturbing

Subtitled but not a ton of dialogue so easy to follow along

Just finished my second viewing of The Hunt, and its still a very entertaining movie

I feel bad for everyone involved with it, because its one time conservative outrage was COMPLETELY wrong, I mean "the Trumpers" actually win... and all the absolutely needless outrage caused this film to make a fraction of what it could have

It's weird you say that because I'd totally forgotten that he was in it. Man what a great actor he was & yes.

I actually liked Cobweb minus the last 15 mins or so, It didn't entirely blow it though. Still pretty much a keeper.

Watching Renfield. I'm not really a Nicolas Cage, but I'm liking him in this. He makes a good Dracula.

It's impossible to make a movie that says anything today without one side or the other spamming the media with outrage over how offensive it is. With Canada enacting its ministry of truth that's only going to get worse and send ripples through everything.

Watched "The Possession of Hannah Grace" last night. Pretty creepy, for sure. enjoyed it.

The Exorcist III in one of my all time favorites. The dialog is absolutely amazing and George C. Scott does a fantastic job of expressing angst and frustration with the crazy world he is in.

If you liked this movie you might like Midnight Mass on Netflix. It is a limited series with 7, one hour, episodes. Some will complain about the extended dialog scenes, but I loved it. I believe Redlettermedia did a review of it.

MM was pretty good. The Changeling has held up pretty decently after all these years.
