tomorrow i'm attending the tapping of "a one-of-a-kind cask of Terrapin's Wake-N-Bake that Spike added 20 pieces of bacon to..."
very excited and curious, never had beer straight from a cask nor with bacon http://www.drunkenpolack.com/images/wakebake.JPG |

Tank 7 and Saison both kick ass. Tank 7 is one of my favorite beers. |

I'm told by my hop loving friend that Fresh Hop is really good. Quote:

Saison-Brett is unbelievable, but I'm a bit biased, Saisons are a particular favorite of mine. My wife bought me a bunch of them the last time a batch came out. They age very well. PM me if you're ever in town; we can open one together!

I can get the regular Saison here but not the Saison Brett any longer. I am still waiting on the 4-packs too. Hurry up already! |

|
Stock up on the Saison if you can; they're not making it anymore. I can't find it anymore at my regular spots like Gomer's in LS.
|
The original Smokestack lineup included Saison, now replaced by Tank 7.
|
Ahh, I see. I'd love to find some of that. I'm also intrigued by Saisons, now (possibly due to Reaper16's focus on it... but also because I've just really liked the complexity and surprising flavors I've found in the ones I've had).
|
I found Saisons after I had blown my palette on IPAs. The thick sweetness of all of the hoppy beers had just lost the luster. With Saisons, I found a nice combination of a nice high ABV and some really complex and delicious flavors.
And yes, the original Smokestack Saison is freakin' delicious. I used to have a bunch of those as well. Sadly, they are all gone from my fridge and beer storage in the basement now. |

Saisons are my favorite beer overall. Pretty light compared to IPA or Quads and complex but pack a punch. |

That's been sold out in KC since the middle of March. |
I had Dark Truth the other day for the first time. I'm not a Stout guy but the Belgian aroma really made it work for me. Won't be my last.

Who has a recommendation on where to find some good/reasonably priced glassware? I am looking for a couple snifters and tulips. I looked on amazon and ebay w/o much luck. Amazon seems to have $70 brandy snifters and quite a few snifters of less than 12 oz. On ebay I can only seem to find glassware with gaudy logos on them.
Thanks for the help if you know a good spot to look. |

I am in South Carolina. Can't believe they get Yuengling cheap at Walmart. Durn it all.

I know from experience that better than standard whine glasses can make a notable difference but is it that way for beer? I typically just use a Chimay goblet for anything good. |

Those Pier 1 snifters aren't durable, but they certainly do the job with beer. |

TJ Maxx and Marshall's both have cheap glassware pretty often. Hit and miss on when and what is in stock, but if your wife goes there as frequently as mine, just tell her to keep an eye out.
|
Thanks for all the suggestions. I have planned on stopping by bed bath and beyond or some store like that. There is a Pier 1 down the street from the office so I will at least grab a couple glasses there to enjoy my Chimay grand reserve this weekend.

Ended up with the 21st Anniversary Fresh Hop, and I'm enjoying it very much. Also got a 4 of Dark Truth.
Was going to get this Saison which I can't remember the name of. Has a bird on the bottle and is from a brewery in the Northwest. It was cheaper than Tank 7, so I was curious to see how it held up. Will get it next time. |

Enjoyed my virgin bottle of Harvest Dance tonight. Absolutely wonderful.
|
I'm only a little way in but I think Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Wild Ale may be the worst of the bunch I picked up. It's not undrinkable like others I've had but it's just meh. Maybe that'll change by the end of the bottle.
|
place close to me opened up selling growlers
picked up a terrapin wake-n-bake imperial stout...kind of like a lesser Yeti, but still very good and tasty, big flavor... and to change it up, a Coney Island Mermaid Pilsner for some friends tomorrow...never tried it |

A friend of mine from San Diego has picked up as much Pliny the Elder that I could talk the store manager out of and it is on its way tomorrow. In the mean time I will have to enjoy either Chimay Grand Reserve or Dogfish Head's Bitches Brew this evening.

WOO HOOO!
For the first time in a long time, I have found some Delerium Tremens at the store! Haven't had this in years, but I remember it being delicious and it's like 9.0% abv. http://i1020.photobucket.com/albums/...mmens_gift.jpg also grabbed some blvd pale ale It's gonna be a good night |
Samuel Smith Imperial Stout tonight. At 7% abv., it's too damn dark and tasty for its own good. I'm going to have to pace myself before this stuff kicks my arse in a royal fashion.

Drinking a bomber of Dry Dock - Seven Seas double IPA. They are a pretty small local brewery that has been winning a good amount of awards lately. Two of the beer guys at one of my favorite stores said it was up there with Pliney and I was a little skeptical. Surprisingly their praise was not unwarranted but it is very slightly on the sweeter side.
Fortunately I also picked up a bottle of 3 week old Pliny to compare it to. |

I followed it up with a sixer of Blvd. Pilsner. A good night indeed. :thumb: |

Bottom line, I knocked the dust off my equipment last week and I'm back in business. I cooked up a batch of my Belizean rum coffee last night and my four homemade brandies are now a year old, as of the 16th. It should be a season full of Holiday Cheer! |

Picked up a 12 pack of Sam Adams Winter Lager at the grocery story today. I'm not a big Sam Adams fan, but I do like this beer and usually grab a 12 pack once or twice during the season.
|
Would anyone that has access to Dogfish Head brews be willing to ship me some?
Closest place to me is 5.5 hours away. |
I have a lot of the stouts from my haul left to try (holiday weekend, FTW) but I keep coming back to Founder's Breakfast Stout. It's just so delicious.

Picked up some Samuel Smith Oatmeal stout and some Hoegarden. It will be a nice change of pace, going from dark to light. Of course I still have some nice pale ale's in the fridge, so it's gonna be a great night!
|
Was going through my Abyss and Dissident to fast so picked up 24 Deschutes Jubelale, nice and tasty ale, if you get a chance you should grab some to try.

Good stop at Total Wine tonight for the Xmas weekend beers:

so here's beers on tap at the growler store i'm stopping by later...what would you pick up? the terrapins are in abundance due to local...

Pumking.
|
ended up with Stone Brewery’s Sublimely Self-Righteous Ale, just tapped....a black ipa, i guess...once it warmed up a bit, delicious
|
Chateau Jiahu on-tap? I'd be all over that. Also, fresh Southern Tier 2xIPA on-tap would probably be great as well.
|
Popped open Boulevard's Bourbon Barrel Quad.
Nice, complex beer. Lighter than I anticipated. Cherries are a bit too forward for me, I'd like to see them a bit more balanced, but it's really coming along with the oak and bourbon as it warms. |
I got some Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale and some Carlsberg lager for tonight! I also picked up this Mississippi Mud quart that they had, it's a black and tan basically, oh and some Jameson. Gonna be a grrrrreat night!
